At Esrange Space Center in northern Sweden, we launch sounding rockets that enable scientific experiments in microgravity. Successful microgravity research requires acceleration levels inside the rocket payload to remain extremely low. However, moving components in one experiment can generate vibrations that affect other experiments onboard. This thesis aims to improve how these vibrations are measured, analyzed and predicted, helping SSC Space provide more reliable and high-quality microgravity conditions for its customers.\nResponsibilities\nThe purpose of the thesis is to develop and validate a model that describes how vibrations propagate through a sounding rocket payload.The work will include:\nConducting a literature review of methods for measuring and analyzing vibrations in mechanical structures. \nAnalyzing data from previous sounding rocket missions, including CAD models, mass distributions and acceleration measurements. \nInvestigating how measurements from a single experiment module can be used to estimate the effect on the complete payload. \nDeveloping an analytical model for vibration propagation. \nValidating the model using existing vibration test equipment. \nIf the schedule allows, applying the method during a future sounding rocket mission. \nThe thesis may explore questions such as:\nHow do the orientation of the module and test equipment affect the measured acceleration levels? \nHow do measurements taken at normal gravity compare with conditions in microgravity? \nHow do vibrations measured on one module propagate through the complete payload? \nHow can data from previous payloads be used to predict vibration behavior in new payloads? \nHow does the distance from the vibration source and the damping properties of the payload structure affect the results?\n Requirements\nWe are looking for Master’s students with a relevant academic background, for example in mechanical engineering, engineering physics, aerospace engineering or a related field.We believe that you have:\nAn interest in structural dynamics, vibrations and data analysis. \nKnowledge of analytical modelling and engineering calculations. \nThe ability to work independently and approach technical problems in a structured way.\nGood written and spoken English. \nExperience with CAD models, signal processing, measurement data or simulation tools is considered an advantage. \nBenefits\nThe opportunity to work on a real engineering challenge within the space industry.\nAccess to experienced specialists, technicaldataand relevant testing equipment. \nPractical experience of how engineering, research and testing are applied in sounding rocket missions. \nInsight into both the Swedish and international space industry. \nAn exciting and international workplace with an open and collaborative atmosphere.\nLocation\nThe thesis will be carried out in collaboration with the SSC Space team in Solna.\nNext Step\nPlease submit your application, including your CV, academic transcripts and a short description of why you are interested in the thesis.\nThe application deadline is 2026-11-22 and the thesis is expected to begin in January 2027.\nPlease note that an approved pre-employment screening is required before the thesis can begin.","description_format":"text","description_chars":3395,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"master","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[{"language":"English","level":"All levels","optional":false}]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"Sweden","iso":"SE","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Science & Engineering","Space & Aerospace","Launch Services","Engineering Services"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-15T06:19:46Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":22,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.398,"p_room":0.55,"age_days":49,"expected_fill_days":34,"reasons":["conf:2","stale_co","velocity","win:tail"],"computed_at":"2026-10-23T05:54:15Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/ssc-space-master-thesis-induced-vibration","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/ssc-space-master-thesis-induced-vibration.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-24T04:28:32Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":6963,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-25T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":1788739},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=1788739"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fssc-space-master-thesis-induced-vibration"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fssc-space-master-thesis-induced-vibration"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fssc-space-master-thesis-induced-vibration"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/ssc-space-master-thesis-induced-vibration\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fssc-space-master-thesis-induced-vibration"}]}
