{"id":3614123,"url":"https://alion.io/job/sse-mechanical-engineer-2","title":"Mechanical Engineer","company":{"id":1808654,"name":"SSE","domain":"sse.com","url":"https://alion.io/company/sse-com","size_band":"5000+","is_staffing_agency":false,"employer_type":"direct","is_intermediary":false,"listed_via":null,"ats_vendor":"Schema","truth_index":null},"role":"Industrial Engineering","role_family":"Industrial Engineering","seniority":null,"employment_type":"full_time","work_mode":"on_site","remote_scope":null,"remote_scope_basis":null,"remote_working_hours":null,"hiring_geo_confidence":"structured","locations":["Bilbao, Spain"],"countries":["ES"],"hiring_countries":[],"hiring_countries_total":0,"salary":null,"salary_estimate":null,"experience_years_min":null,"visa_sponsorship":false,"relocation_package":false,"has_equity":false,"technologies":[],"status":"live","first_seen_at":"2026-11-02T11:07:24Z","employer_posted_date":"2026-11-02","last_verified_at":"2026-11-04T05:24:51Z","board_verified":true,"closed_at":null,"days_open":2,"trust":{"level":"ok","repost_count":null,"flags":[],"days_open":2},"description":"Base Location: You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in our Bilbao office.\nSalary: €Competitive depending on experience + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.\nWorking Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available\nThe role\nThere aren’t many Mechanical Engineering roles where you can help select the technology for future wind farms and then support those turbines throughout their operational life.\nAs Mechanical Engineer, you’ll provide specialist engineering expertise across our growing European renewable energy portfolio, supporting projects from early development and turbine selection through procurement, construction and commissioning, as well as helping our operational fleet perform safely and reliably.\nYou’ll be joining an international renewables business progressing a secured development pipeline of around 3.3GW, including approximately 1.3GW of onshore wind, alongside offshore wind, solar PV and battery storage projects.\nWith our first operational onshore wind farms already delivered in Spain, France and Italy, this is an opportunity to influence both the projects we’re developing next and the assets already generating renewable electricity.\nYou will\nHelp assess, select and procure utility-scale wind turbines for new projects, bringing sound engineering judgement to the decisions that shape their long-term performance.\nDevelop and deliver the technical requirements within Turbine Supply Agreements, working with manufacturers, suppliers and project teams to secure the right technical and commercial outcomes.\nCarry out technical due diligence and assess turbine technology, quality, reliability and engineering risk to support investment and procurement decisions.\nWork across engineering disciplines throughout development, construction and commissioning, challenging where needed and helping teams find practical solutions.\nSupport our operational wind turbine fleet through root cause investigations, engineering risk assessments and reliability improvements, helping assets operate safely and efficiently for the long term.\nYou have\nA degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering or another relevant discipline, or equivalent practical industry experience.\nKnowledge of wind turbine technology and experience gained within renewable energy, power generation, large mechanical plant or a related engineering environment.\nAn understanding of technical due diligence, quality assurance, engineering risk, reliability or asset management, combined with an interest in the commercial side of project delivery.\nStrong communication and technical writing skills, with the confidence to work effectively with project teams, suppliers and technical specialists across different countries and cultures.\nFluency in Spanish and English, along with a full driving licence and willingness to travel.
