The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Senior Contract Manager to join our Procurement and Commercial (P&C) team supporting the Offshore and Islands Capital Delivery programme.

Reporting to the Procurement & Commercial Manager, you will provide the necessary procurement and commercial support to our growing portfolio of Island connections within the SSEN Transmission business. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the continued growth of SSENT.

You will

  • Support the Procurement and Commercial Manager and their teams providing a world class procurement and commercial service to internal customers, ensuring all aspects of delivery are following internal controls as established through the Large Capital Projects Governance and Commercial Manuals
  • Support and lead on procurement activities such as the development of Project procurement strategies, managing the procurement process, negotiation of contract terms and conditions and price through to contract award whilst ensuring compliance with the Utilities Contracts (Scotland) Regulations 2016
  • Work on Cost estimating to the required standard and accuracy. Ensure all relevant evidence is included within the estimate to justify to internal and external stakeholders such as Ofgem
  • Have to deal with Cost and budget management via regular cost reporting and ensuring change management procedures are adhered to; Payment and expenditure management
  • Provide robust post contract commercial management which will support the project goals and objectives including negotiating/agreeing compensation events and ensuring that the core principles of the Commercial Manual are being implemented.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures, promote safety and safe working practices both internally and externally to improve safety performance.

You have

  • Experience of drafting and interpreting commercial contracts together with knowledge of Standard Form construction contracts and bespoke contract arrangements. Experience of working with NEC.
  • A PQS background with experience working as the Client developing procurement strategies and taking projects through refinement to execution, no specific experience working in Energy sector is required but would be advantageous. (QS Qualification or similar needed).
  • Strong commercial acumen with well-developed, problem-solving, communication and negotiation skills with demonstrable experience delivering value for money within large projects/programmes of work.
  • A strong track record of negotiating high-value construction and civil engineering contracts and securing commercially robust outcomes on project of this nature is advantageous.
  • Ability to lead challenging commercial discussions while maintaining effective interpersonal and supplier relationships.
  • Experience of estimating, sourcing management, cost & budget management, and contract administration.
  • Demonstratable experience and competency on all cost management issues including cost reporting, forecasting, accrual management and supply chain payment.
