Installs and replaces all regulatory, informational, and warning signs utilizing a wide variety of hand and power tools. Operates equipment used in the maintenance and repair of various traffic control devices including but not limited to dump truck, high loader, tractor mower, compressor, jackhammer and snow removal equipment. Limited supervisory and no budgetary responsibilities.\n.\nSupervisory Responsibility\nIntegral to the position of Equipment Operator II is the responsibility for developing subordinates to their fullest potential by exercising appropriate degrees of coaching, training, guiding, evaluating, correcting and if necessary, disciplining.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\nOPERATES mobile pavement striping truck, walk behind paint stripers, and hand paints pedestrian crossings, etc. with the use of stencils.\nOPERATES dump trucks, equipment, machinery, saws, routers, jackhammers, and air compressor.\nTRANSPORTS equipment and workers and hauls materials in an efficient manner.\nOPERATES snow removal equipment\nMANUFACTURES and REFURBISHES various traffic signs using sign making equipment.\nMAINTAINS records of work accomplished daily.\nREQUIRED to be on-call on rotating shifts and/or carry a pager and respond to emergencies as needed.\nINSTALLS and REPLACES all regulatory, informational, and warning signs utilizing a wide variety of hand and power tools.\nSETS UP daily closures for routine maintenance and repair projects.\nSETS UP emergency closures for floods, accidents, fires, hazmat spills, police incidents, and other emergency situations requiring traffic control.\nSETS UP weekend closures for City-sponsored parades and other public events.\nINVESTIGATES and, if needed, ABATES reports of sight-distance issues.\nSERVES as crew leader in absence of foreman\nOther Duties and Responsibilities\nPerforms all other related duties as assigned.\nEmployee Behavior and Conduct\nCity employees shall conduct themselves in a professional manner and shall exhibit and extend such professional conduct appropriate for the circumstances to those with whom they come into contact both internally and externally during the performance of their duties. Examples of professional conduct include, but are not limited to, being communicative, informative, fair, honest, and respectful.\nRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities\nVALID Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement required.\nABILITY to follow instructions and perform tasks with minimum supervision\nSKILLS in operating equipment used in the maintenance and repair of various traffic control devices.\nKNOWLEDGE of the rules and regulations as set out in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.\nSKILLS in Microsoft Office products.\nKNOWLEDGE of applicable City, State and Federal rules and regulations\nABILITY to learn applicable City Ordinances\nCERTIFICATION with work zone safety through the International Municipal Signal Association or the American Traffic Services Association preferred.\nMaterials and Equipment Directly Used\nOperates a variety of equipment, including dump truck, snowplow, jack hammer, backhoe, high loader, mobile pavement striping truck, walk behind stripers, arc welder, oxygen & acetylene torches, tractor mower, chainsaw and other tools directly related to the maintenance of the various traffic control devices. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required.\nWorking Environment/Physical Requirements\nWork is performed under a variety of conditions ranging from extreme cold, heat, wind and wet. Majority of work will be performed in live traffic. Must be able to stand for long periods and operate equipment with dexterity. Must have the ability to routinely lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds, occasionally lift objects weighing as much as 90 pounds or assist in lifting objects weighing in excess of 100 pounds. Work involves climbing, bending, squatting and reaching. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes. Vacation and other leave scheduling shall be requested of and approved by the appropriate supervisor.\nEducation\nHigh school diploma or equivalent required or must be able to obtain within 6 months. One to three years of experience in related field preferred.
