The work covers reliability, security, and infrastructure cost, in close collaboration with backend engineers, as the company builds its first user-facing AI feature.\nWho You Are\n\nA seasoned Site Reliability Engineer who takes genuine ownership of production infrastructure and treats its reliability, security and cost as their own responsibility\nAn engineer who approaches infrastructure as software, favouring durable automation and well-designed systems over manual intervention\nSelf-directed and confident setting priorities independently, weighing reliability, security and cost against the needs of the business\nA clear, candid communicator who shares feedback openly, assumes positive intent and builds trust with colleagues across engineering and the business\nProduct-minded, with an interest in how infrastructure decisions affect the app and its users, and a willingness to contribute ideas beyond infrastructure\nAn enthusiastic adopter of AI-assisted engineering who uses it to work faster and automate routine tasks, while remaining accountable for security, correctness and production outcomes\nWork Type\n\n Location: Remote (British Columbia)\nVacancy Type: This role reflects an existing vacancy\nRequirements\nWhat You’ll Do\n\nOwn the company’s AWS infrastructure end to end, continuously improving its reliability, scalability, security, performance, and cost efficiency\nDesign, build, and maintain infrastructure as code with Terraform, and manage the Kubernetes environments and containerized workloads that power the app\nEvolve CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation and developer workflows so engineers can ship changes safely and efficiently\nStrengthen observability, alerting and incident response, leading investigations into production issues and driving improvements that prevent recurrence\nPlan for capacity, failure and recovery, building production readiness into every system while steadily reducing operational toil\nOperate and modernize shared data infrastructure, including PostgreSQL on RDS, Redis and Elasticsearch, covering backups, replication, migrations and performance tuning\nProvide clear visibility into AWS and engineering tooling spend, identify optimization opportunities, and partner with business stakeholders on budgeting, forecasting, and infrastructure investment\nDrive infrastructure security priorities alongside a senior external security advisor, translating risks and recommendations into concrete, prioritized work\nCollaborate with backend engineers on system architecture and operational simplicity, contributing directly to backend services when that is the most effective solution\n⭐ What We’re Looking For\n\n7+ years of experience in site reliability engineering, DevOps or infrastructure engineering, including ownership of production cloud environments\nDeep hands-on expertise with AWS, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code using Terraform\nStrong fundamentals in Linux, networking, and distributed systems, with a solid grounding in production operations\nProven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, observability tooling and incident response processes\nA track record of designing systems for failure and recovery, including capacity planning and production readiness\nExperience operating production databases and shared data infrastructure such as PostgreSQL, Redis and Elasticsearch\nStrong programming skills in Python, Go or a comparable language\nHands-on experience with cloud security, including IAM, vulnerability management and security reviews, ideally in partnership with security specialists\nExperience managing cloud infrastructure costs and making informed trade-offs between cost, performance and reliability\nExcellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly to both engineers and business stakeholders\nWhat Makes This Role Exciting\n\nGenuine Ownership: Take responsibility for the full infrastructure domain, with the autonomy to set priorities and decide how the platform is run\nVisible Impact: In a small engineering team, decisions move quickly, and every improvement to reliability, deployment or cost is felt across the company\nA Voice in the Product: Engineers are encouraged to contribute product ideas and take an active part in what gets built, rather than simply delivering to specification\nAI-Forward Engineering: Access to enterprise AI tools, with active encouragement to use them to automate routine work and improve how infrastructure is built and run\nSustainable Pace: An established company with a steady working rhythm and flexible hours, rather than the pressure of a hypergrowth startup\nBenefits\nBase Salary: $140,000 -
