Reporting to our CFO, you'll run everything from onboarding and employee relations to training and performance.\nThe foundations are in place: an HRIS with onboarding and offboarding workflows already built, a policy library, contract templates and handbooks for both entities. Your job is to take them over, keep them sharp, and fill the gaps, so the people side runs smoothly and our leadership team can stay focused on growing the business.\nYou'll be our one-person HR function for a team of 60+ across London, Leeds and Malta. This is a hands-on role for someone who likes owning a function end to end and wants to be the person everyone turns to on anything people-related.\nAbout Stakemate\nFounded in summer 2022, Stakemate is revolutionising sports betting by putting rewarding features and seamless interfaces at the forefront. disrupted Barclays, Robinhood disrupted Etrade, and Stakemate is executing in the same way to take on the traditional gaming sector.\nRequirements\nMust-have\n6+ years in HR or People roles, ideally including time as the lead or senior generalist in a small or growing business.\nExperience across the employee lifecycle, from onboarding through to exit.\nComfortable handling employee relations matters, including disciplinaries.\nStrong written English and well organised.\nRight to live and work in Malta.\nNice-to-have\nExposure to payroll, pensions or benefits admin.\nWorking knowledge of Maltese and/or UK employment law.\nExperience in iGaming, fintech or another regulated industry.\nCIPD Level 5+ or an equivalent HR qualification.\nHands-on experience with PayFit, Humaans or Workable.\nExperience supporting ISO 27001 or similar audits from the people side.\nYou\nHands-on by default: you're as comfortable running a payroll check or chasing a training sign-off as you are designing a performance framework.\nA safe pair of hands: leadership can hand you the people function and trust that it's handled.\nTrusted and discreet: people bring you difficult conversations because they know you'll handle them fairly and confidentially.\nAI-first: you look for ways to automate admin and workflows before reaching for more headcount.\nWhat You'll Do\nPeople operations\nOwn onboarding and offboarding across both entities, including contracts, new-joiner vetting and HR set-up for contractors.\nRun UK payroll through PayFit and prepare Malta payroll inputs for our payroll provider, alongside pensions and benefits such as health insurance.\nMaintain and improve our HR systems (Humaans and Workable), keeping employee data accurate and our existing workflows up to date.\nPolicy, compliance and employee relations\nOwn our employee handbooks and HR policies for the UK and Malta, keeping them current and compliant.\nManage employee relations cases and disciplinary procedures, liaising with external counsel where needed.\nOwn the people controls behind our ISO 27001 certification, including joiner, mover and leaver processes and the evidence for audits.\nPerformance, training and development\nDesign a performance review framework that fits a lean, fast-moving team, then run it: schedules, templates, follow-ups and supporting managers through each cycle.\nMake sure mandatory training is completed and evidenced across the business.\nBuild out learning and development, including manager training and career development.\nHiring and culture\nRun our hiring process in Workable with hiring managers, from job posts and screening through to offers and contracts.\nOwn engagement, team socials and offsites, internal people comms, and
