We're hiring two Mechanical Engineers to join the Bolt team early in their careers and grow with the product. One will work on the upper body - the structures, mounts, and covers that carry the arms, sensors, and payload on the base. One will support the electrical team and proof-of-concept builds - brackets, enclosures, harness routing, test fixtures, and the quick-turn parts that keep prototypes moving. You'll design in SolidWorks, build what you design, and test it on real robots.\nLocation\nThis is an on-site role based at our new Boston-area office, where Bolt is designed, built, and tested, with some flexibility on days in the office once you're up to speed. You'll work next to the build area, electronics lab, and test floor. Relocation assistance is available.\nResponsibilities\nDesign parts and assemblies in SolidWorks - sheet metal, machined parts, 3D prints, and off-the-shelf hardware - and release drawings with correct tolerances and callouts\n\nBuild and test prototypes: order parts, assemble, instrument, run tests, and document results\n\nDo first-pass engineering analysis (loads, stress, deflection, fastener sizing) and know when to ask for a deeper look\n\nSupport cross-functional builds with EE, software, and test - fixtures, mounts, cable routing, quick fixes on the floor\n\nKeep BOMs, drawings, and PDM records accurate through fast design iterations\n\nLearn the product deeply: assemble robots, tear them down, and find out what breaks\n\nWho you are\nYou're early in your career, you've built real hardware (robotics team, FSAE, rocketry, research lab, internships, or a first job), and you want to work on robots you can watch move. You'd rather be in the shop than in a meeting, you ask good questions, and you finish what you start. On-site presence matters here: the fastest way to learn this job is standing next to the robot.\nSkills you'll bring\nExperience: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related, and 0-3 years of hands-on hardware experience (internships and project teams count)\n\nFundamentals: Solid grasp of statics, strength of materials, materials selection, and GD&T basics\n\nTool Fluency: Proficient in SolidWorks parts, assemblies, and drawings; comfortable with a 3D printer, basic machine tools, and hand tools\n\nHands-on: You've assembled, tested, and debugged something physical and can show it\n\nClarity of Communication: You write clear test notes and design summaries and ask for help early\n\nGrowth + Optimism: Excited by new domains and challenges, and eager to pick up new context fast\n\nExcelling in Ambitious Environments: You thrive in a fast-moving team with changing requirements and tight timelines\n\nBonus points for\nRobotics, AMR/AGV, or vehicle project experience\n\nBasic electrical skills - reading schematics, wiring, crimping, soldering\n\nPython or scripting for test data\n\nSheet metal and machining DFM exposure\n\nCompensation and Benefits\nThe base salary range for this role is $95,000 to $125,000, depending on experience. Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at Standard Bots. All Full-Time Employees are eligible for Employee Stock Options.
