Job Summary

As an Audit Manager specialising in Functions, you will play a pivotal role in leading and contributing to audit activities across South Africa and the wider Group. You will oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of internal audits, ensuring thorough risk assessments and comprehensive controls evaluation. Taking charge as a team leader, you will guide audit teams in preparing reports, validating issue resolution, and aligning findings with regulatory standards and organisational expectations.

The role demands proactive relationship management with senior stakeholders and active participation in country governance forums. You will support continuous monitoring initiatives and provide insightful recommendations to address control weaknesses, thus fostering a robust internal control environment. Your efforts will contribute to the formulation and refinement of the annual audit plan, ensuring a strategic approach aligned with business objectives and risk priorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply an in-depth understanding of, and compliance with, Group Internal Audit (GIA) methodology standards and the GIA system in all areas of assigned GIA activity.
• Evaluate quantitative and qualitative data (using data analytics) to diagnose underlying issues, patterns, and root causes.
• Monitor/track assigned audit issues and action plans and report overdue items to the Head of Audit for resolution.
• Build effective working relationships with the business and functions to facilitate execution of audit work, help improve the control environment, and stay informed of changes in the business's risk profile.
• Support the Heads of Audit in regularly updating the relevant assigned risk assessments to ensure timely identification of changes in risk profiles, proposing adjustments to the assigned audit plan as appropriate.
• Be prepared to raise issues or concerns outside the normal audit process.
• Review MI and reports regularly to remain current with key trends and risks within the business and the audit industry at large.
• Demonstrate exemplary conduct and uphold the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
• Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance, in both letter and spirit, with all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and the Group Code of Conduct.
• Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate, and resolve risk, conduct, and compliance matters.
• At the request of the Country and Product Heads of Audit, attend stakeholder meetings to stay informed on key business matters and provide appropriate challenge to ensure risks are properly identified, discussed, and timely remediation plans are implemented.

Qualifications and Experience

• Accomplished audit professional with a significant track record, ideally with at least six years in audit roles, preferably gained within a globally recognized banking institution or from a Big-4 accounting firm environment.
• Familiarity with the regulatory landscape and banking risks related to strategy, product performance, and operational issues is essential.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are pivotal, enabling you to influence senior management and stakeholders effectively.
• The ability to escalate concerns professionally, along with a record of working autonomously to deliver against tight deadlines, is critical. The role requires analytical thinking with creativity in problem-solving and risk assessment.
• Candidates should show initiative, be well organised with masterful time management, and demonstrate willingness to assist peers and manage priorities flexibly across various global functions.
• Professional certifications such as CPA, CIA, or CISA are highly desirable and will be considered an asset.
• Proficiency in English is mandatory to effectively communicate within a global and diverse team setting.
