Battery Test Technician

Job specification (What You’ll Do)
As a Battery Technician, you’ll be located in Towson, MD and you will build, and test battery packs and battery operated power tools.
- Work with team of engineers to design and test power tool battery solutions
- Fabricate and acquire materials to build prototype battery packs, Battery management system electronics assemblies and power tools
- Work with non-standard test requirement inputs to write test procedures, design and build test fixtures paired with data acquisition, and utilize these solutions to execute tests
- Trouble shoot and determine root cause analysis on battery packs, electronic assemblies, power tools and test equipment.
- Apply principles of electronics, electrical circuitry and mathematics
- Utilize lab test equipment such as oscilloscope, power supply, electronic load to conduct testing
- Perform thermal testing of electronic assemblies .
- Graph and provide basic analysis of test data.
- Document new test procedures; follow and report test plan results.
- Utilize available resources effectively.
- Effectively communicate status of active programs.
- Handle, modify, and test lithium-ion battery packs in a controlled laboratory environment
- Support destructive and abusive testing of lithium-ion battery packs
- Assist with battery pack rework and assembly processes, including spot welding
- Support safe handling, storage, and disposal of lithium-ion batteries in accordance with established procedures and safety requirements
Employee Specification (Job requirements)
- Associates degree in Electronics or Electro-mechanical engineering technology or equivalent field required
- 5-7+ years experience in Electronics Technician or related position required.
- Experience with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assembly, surface mount soldering, hand soldering and electronics prototyping
- Hands-on ability to build prototypes and use rapid prototyping equipment
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Effective communication skills to work with cross functional teams
- Exceptional organizational skills demonstrated in gathering test data and maintaining lab workspaces
- Strong ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong skills in basic PC applications such as Microsoft Office
- Experience writing LabVIEW based programs to control laboratory equipment is a plus
- Knowledge and experience working with lithium ion batteries is a plus
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to self-delegate tasks from several Engineers.
- Must be comfortable handling, modifying, and testing lithium-ion batteries
- Experience with battery safety practices and understanding of hazards associated with lithium-ion batteries
- Familiarity with spot-welding and/or Lasser welding
- Experience with battery disposal procedures, or willingness to learn proper battery disposal methods
- Comfortable performing, or willing to perform, abusive testing on battery packs
This is the lowest to highest annual full-time salary range we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. The salary offered within the range may vary depending on multiple factors including job level, geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and in compliance with local wage requirements.
