The What
As a Deductions Specialist, you will be part of a dedicated team based in Mississauga, Ontario and reporting to the Canada Controller. The Deductions Specialist supports the commercial finance and order-to-cash functions for the Canada Tools businesses. The primary focus of this position is the review, validation, and resolution of customer deductions, including promotional claims, pricing discrepancies, shortages, returns, rebates, and other trade-related disputes. This role is responsible for researching and reconciling deduction activity, partnering with Sales, Customer Service, Finance, and Shared Services to drive timely resolution, supporting month-end close activities, maintaining strong internal controls, and ensuring compliance with company policies and audit requirements. The position also contributes to process improvement initiatives aimed at reducing invalid deductions, improving recovery rates, and enhancing overall deductions management.

What You Will Get To Do
- Research, review, validate, and resolve customer deductions related to promotions, pricing discrepancies, shortages, returns, rebates, promotional agreements, and other trade claims.
- Partner with Sales, Customer Service, Finance, Accounts Receivable, and other cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve open deductions in a timely manner.
- Determine validity of deductions and process appropriate resolutions, including approvals, chargebacks, recoveries, and dispute submissions.
- Monitor and manage deduction aging to reduce past-due balances and improve overall resolution cycle time.
- Support month end and quarter-end close activities by reconciling deduction balances, preparing account analyses, and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
- Maintain accurate records of deduction claims, resolutions, and supporting documentation in accordance with company policies and audit requirements.
- Prepare and communicate regular reporting on deduction volumes, aging, and key issue trends to management.
- Identify recurring deduction trends, root causes, and process gaps, and recommend corrective actions to reduce future claims and improve recovery rates.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives focused on deductions management, dispute resolution workflows, and process standardization.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, delegation of authority, and other financial and operational policies and support internal and external audit requests by providing documentation, explanations, and evidence of control execution.
- Other financial support and research, as necessary.
Who You Are
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required - CPA or MBA is a plus
- Minimum of 2 - 5 years’ experience in deductions management, accounts receivable, trade finance, order-to-cash, customer claims, or related finance/accounting function
- Strong knowledge of MS Excel - ability to handle large files with pivot tables, vlookup, sumif, etc.
- Ability to discuss matters effectively with non-financial associates at all levels of management
- Must demonstrate personal drive and willingness to accept responsibility
- Strong organizational, analytical and decision-making skills - attention to details
- Ability to work independently
- Continuous improvement minded; experience with business intelligence platforms (e.g. Power BI) highly preferred
- Results oriented
