Your work will bring together grading and drainage, stormwater management, water and sewer servicing, roads and other site infrastructure. You will contribute from design through construction, with regular client contact and opportunities for construction site visits as projects progress. \n\nYou will have access to local multidisciplinary colleagues, senior technical guidance, regular design reviews and mentoring, as well as Stantec’s extensive network of technical specialists. We are looking for a solid foundation in civil site design and consulting engineering; we will support you in developing project management capabilities and further technical skills. Whether your interests lead toward project management, design leadership, and/or a technical specialty, our growing team and major project portfolio offer room to build your career. \n\nThis role offers a hybrid working arrangement based out of our Dartmouth, NS office.\n\nYour Key Responsibilities\n\n Take ownership of civil site development design packages, including engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, quantities, cost estimates and technical reports, with senior technical review.\n\n Develop designs for grading and drainage, stormwater management, watermains, sewers, force mains, culverts, roads, sidewalks and parking areas, as required by each project.\n\n Coordinate the work of junior staff and collaborate with other disciplines to resolve design interfaces and produce coordinated deliverables.\n\n Communicate regularly with clients, participate in project meetings and explain design considerations, progress and technical issues.\n\n Prepare regulatory applications and coordinate with reviewing agencies on project requirements and approvals.\n\n Evaluate design alternatives, materials, costs and constructability with input from senior engineers and technical specialists.\n\n Plan and track assigned work against project scope and schedule, identify emerging issues and coordinate their resolution with the project team.\n\n Check deliverables for accuracy and completeness, address technical review comments and follow project quality-management procedures.\n\n Provide construction-phase support, including shop drawing and submittal reviews, responses to requests for information, contract document clarifications, site visits and observation reports, and contract administration duties as required.\n\nQualificationsYour Capabilities and Credentials\nExperience in civil design for site development within a consulting engineering environment.\nWorking knowledge of grading, drainage, stormwater management, gravity and pressure pipe systems, roads, and erosion and sediment control.\nAbility to develop coordinated engineering documents and understand the relationship between calculations, drawings and specifications.\nWorking knowledge of applicable codes, design standards, specifications and regulatory approval requirements.\nSound engineering judgment, a practical approach to problem-solving and the ability to recognize when senior technical input is needed.\nAbility to organize assigned work, coordinate junior staff and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary colleagues.\nClear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to discuss technical matters with clients and reviewing agencies.\nProficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant civil engineering design software. Knowledge and skill with AutoCAD and Civil 3D are considered assets.\nA valid driver's licence and ability to travel to project sites and client locations as required.\nEducation and Experience\nBachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering.\nLicensed as a Professional Engineer in Nova Scotia, or eligible for licensure.\nMinimum of four years of relevant experience.\nEligible to obtain Government of Canada security clearance.\nTypical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
