Working across software engineering, enterprise integrations, API solutions, EDI/cXML transaction processing, and production support, the team plays a critical role in advancing Staples’ digital transformation and operational efficiency.\nRole Summary: The Software Engineer II will design, develop, support, and maintain business-critical enterprise applications, integrations, and data exchange solutions. This role will leverage experience with jBase/PICK MultiValue databases, Linux/UNIX environments, APIs, EDI, cXML, JSON, HTTPS, SFTP, and related technologies to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable solutions. The engineer will troubleshoot production issues, develop enhancements, automate processes, and partner with business and technical stakeholders to improve system performance, operational efficiency, and customer outcomes.\nWhat you’ll be doing:\nDesign, develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications, integrations, and data exchange solutions using jBase and related technologies.\nSupport and enhance secure integration processes involving APIs, EDI, cXML, JSON, HTTPS, SFTP, and other data exchange technologies.\nTroubleshoot and resolve application, database, integration, and production support issues to ensure system stability, performance, and data integrity.\nDevelop automation scripts, system utilities, and technical solutions that improve operational efficiency and reliability.\nCollaborate with business partners, customers, vendors, and technical teams to gather requirements, implement enhancements, and resolve technical issues.\nParticipate in solution design, code reviews, testing, and deployment activities while following established development, security, and quality standards.\nDocument technical solutions, analyze system data, and contribute to continuous improvement across software development and integration processes.\nLead or coordinate assigned workstreams for small to moderately complex projects while exercising independent judgment within established guidelines.\nWhat you bring to the table:\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve moderately complex technical issues.\nEffective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to partner across technical and business teams.\nStrong attention to detail, commitment to quality, and ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.\nAbility to collaborate with internal stakeholders, customers, vendors, and cross-functional teams to deliver practical technology solutions.\nInitiative, adaptability, and a continuous improvement mindset focused on automation, reliability, and operational excellence.\nAbility to manage multiple priorities, support production systems, and contribute to project deliverables with limited guidance.\nWhat’s needed - Basic Qualifications:\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and relevant experience.\n2+ years of experience developing and supporting software applications in a professional environment.\n2+ years of experience working with jBase/PICK MultiValue databases.\nExperience supporting Linux/UNIX operating systems in production environments.\nExperience creating and maintaining shell scripts such as Bash, Korn, or similar scripting languages.\nExperience using AWK for file management, data manipulation, or automation.\nExperience supporting secure data transmission technologies, including HTTPS and SFTP.\nWorking knowledge of OAuth authentication and API security concepts.\nExperience processing, troubleshooting, or supporting at least one transaction format, such as EDI, cXML, or JSON.\nExperience using Git or another enterprise version control system.\nExperience participating in Agile, Scrum, or similar software development methodologies.\nDemonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve production support issues.\nAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, Power Query, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, complex formulas, and data analysis techniques.\nWhat’s needed - Preferred Qualifications:\n3+ years of experience supporting ERP, procurement, supply chain, distribution, or commerce platforms.\nExperience designing, developing, or maintaining REST APIs and web services.\nExperience working with XML, REST, middleware, or enterprise integration technologies.\nExperience troubleshooting high-volume production integration environments.\nExperience supporting B2B integrations involving customers, suppliers, or trading partners.\nExperience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.\nExperience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.\nExperience with container technologies such as Docker.\nExperience using monitoring and logging solutions to support production systems.\nFamiliarity with infrastructure automation and Infrastructure-as-Code technologies.\nExperience with jBase administrative utilities such as jstat, jrestore, jshow, or similar platform tools.\nKnowledge of secure application development and API security best practices.\nWe Offer:\nInclusive culture with associate-led Business Resource Groups\n22 days of PTO and Holiday Schedule (7 observed paid holidays + 1 floating holiday)\nOnline and Retail Discounts, Company Match 401(k), Physical and Mental Health Wellness programs, and more!\nThe salary range represents the expected compensation for this role at the time of posting.
