But what if they could “plug” into a grid, the way buildings do on Earth? Instead of cables and outlets, Star Catcher is building the technology to wirelessly beam energy to spacecraft’s existing solar panels when and where they need it.\nBe an early member of a team building an entirely new energy infrastructure at scale to power the next frontier.\nStar Catcher Industries, Inc., located in Jacksonville, Florida, has an opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer - Embedded & Flight Systems to support the development of space-to-space power beaming spacecraft and the Star Catcher Network, its orbital power grid. \nKey Responsibilities\nLead flight software architecture across programs and co-own cross-domain system interfaces with hardware, FPGA, and systems leads.\nOwn full software development lifecycle execution for flight software, including requirements flow-down and decomposition, allocation to design, hardware/software integration, design verification and qualification, transition to production, and fielded product support.\nSet Fault Detection, Isolation, and Recovery (FDIR) strategy, watchdog mechanisms, redundancy management, and health monitoring standards.\nContribute to software development standards, coding practices, and institutional knowledge as the team grows.\nMentor embedded/flight software engineers and lead design reviews.\nParticipate in software requirements development, verification, validation, and design reviews to ensure complete traceability from requirements through flight qualification.\nMaintain software quality through code review and unit and integration testing\nBasic Qualifications\nEducation: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.\nExperience: 10+ years of professional experience developing embedded software for hardware-centric, real-time systems, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects from architecture through deployment.\nTechnical Expertise\nExpert proficiency in C and C++ for embedded systems, with a solid understanding of memory management, concurrency, interrupt handling, and real-time scheduling.\nStrong experience with software/hardware co-design, distributed systems design, and software/computer architecture.\nExperience developing software on ARM Cortex-M, ARM Cortex-A, RISC-V, or similar embedded processor architectures using Real-Time Operating Systems (e.g., RTEMS, FreeRTOS, VxWorks, LynxOS, INTEGRITY, Zephyr) or bare-metal environments.\nFamiliarity with backplane-based embedded architectures (e.g., SpaceVPX, VPX, CompactPCI Serial) and integrating compute modules within a multi-board chassis system.\nComfortable with hardware-software integration, using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG debuggers, and protocol analyzers to diagnose complex interactions.\nWorking knowledge of Bash/Python for build, test, and release automation, along with configuration/change management and debug/trace analysis tools.\nWorking knowledge of Git and collaborative software development workflows\nEnjoy operating in a fast-paced, early-stage environment and solving ambiguous engineering challenges with an analytical approach. Willing to own systems from initial concept through flight operations.\nDesired Skills\nExperience developing software that has flown in space, or familiarity with radiation-mitigation strategies in software (e.g., memory scrubbing, checkpointing, ECC memory, redundancy schemes, watchdog timers).\nExperience developing software on Embedded Linux platforms is a plus.\nExperience collaborating with FPGA engineers or developing software for heterogeneous FPGA/SoC or system-on-chip architectures.\nFamiliarity with safety-critical or mission-assurance software practices (e.g., MISRA C/C++, DO-178C or equivalent assurance frameworks, NASA NPR 7150.2) and common flight architectures such as NASA cFE/cFS.\nExperience with embedded security and encryption for command and telemetry data protection.\nExperience developing or integrating with board support packages (BSPs) and device drivers.\nExperience with Precision Time Protocol (PTPv2) or similar protocols for time synchronization across distributed avionics.\nExperience with continuous integration, automated test infrastructure, and containerized development environments (e.g., Docker), including DevSecOps and test automation using Python or similar languages.\nFamiliarity with structured workflow tools supporting requirements management, configuration management, and change control.\nMaster's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.\nHelp us deploy and scale space infrastructure that will drive our utilization of space forward! We offer a highly competitive benefits package including access to comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k) retirement plan, life insurance, and paid parental leave, in addition to other benefits.\nStar Catcher is an Equal Opportunity Employer; employment with Star Catcher is governed on the basis of merit, competence and qualifications and will not be influenced in any manner by race, color, religion, gender, national origin/ethnicity, veteran status, disability status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, mental or physical disability or any other legally protected status.\nAll offers of employment at Star Catcher are contingent upon results of a thorough background check and your ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the US.\nTo conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.","description_format":"text","description_chars":6100,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":10,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Life insurance","Parental leave","Retirement plans"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Space Services"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-12T19:40:03Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":90,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.903,"p_room":1,"age_days":2,"expected_fill_days":38,"reasons":["conf:1","velocity","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-15T05:46:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/star-catcher-senior-software-engineer-embedded-flight-systems-i","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/star-catcher-senior-software-engineer-embedded-flight-systems-i.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-16T01:21:37Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":2155,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-17T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":1906176},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=1906176"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fstar-catcher-senior-software-engineer-embedded-flight-systems-i"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fstar-catcher-senior-software-engineer-embedded-flight-systems-i"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fstar-catcher-senior-software-engineer-embedded-flight-systems-i"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/star-catcher-senior-software-engineer-embedded-flight-systems-i\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fstar-catcher-senior-software-engineer-embedded-flight-systems-i"}]}
