INVENTORY SUPERVISOR

OPERATIONS | INVENTORY | ANALYTICS & AI

Position Summary

The Inventory Supervisor leads daily inventory operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and strong service to internal and external partners including Receiving, Sales, Customer Service, Showrooms, and Purchasing. This role combines hands-on leadership with data-driven problem solving - using inventory data and AI tools to identify trends, reduce risk, and turn information into action.

The successful candidate is AI-native: comfortable using AI daily for analysis, reporting, and decision support, while applying sound judgment and validating information before acting on it. Success in this role blends leadership, analytical thinking, operational discipline, and fluency in technology.

Core Competencies

  • Analytical Thinking - uses facts and data, not assumptions, to make sound decisions.
  • AI & Technology Fluency - uses AI naturally as part of everyday work to boost productivity and analysis.
  • Operational Excellence - continually looks for ways to make processes more accurate and scalable.
  • Leadership & Accountability - sets clear expectations, develops people, owns results.
  • Problem Solving - looks past the immediate issue to the root cause.
  • Communication & Collaboration - translates data into clear guidance and builds strong cross-team partnerships.
  • Adaptability - embraces change, new technology, and evolving business needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inventory Accuracy, Systems & Operations
  • Oversee daily inventory activity - receiving, storage, allocation, transfers, adjustments, and shipping.
  • Maintain accuracy through cycle counts, physical inventories, reconciliations, and discrepancy investigations, focusing on root cause rather than one-off fixes.
  • Monitor transactions for unusual activity, and ensure inventory is properly identified, labeled, and located to standard.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of inventory/ERP systems; use them to research orders, transfers, allocations, and history, and escalate system issues appropriately.
  • Partner with Receiving and Warehouse teams to reduce errors, unnecessary handling, and waste.

2. Data-Driven & AI-Enabled Decision Making

  • Build and maintain KPIs (accuracy, lost inventory, reconciliation, aging, productivity) and recurring reports/dashboards that give leadership real visibility.
  • Analyze data to find trends and risks not obvious in day-to-day operations, validating data integrity before acting on it - moving the team from “what happened” to “why” and “what next.”
  • Develop and use AI applications as a regular tool for analysis and reporting.
  • Maintain human oversight of AI output - verify before implementing or communicating results - and stay current on emerging AI/automation relevant to the operation.
  • Champion practical, responsible AI adoption across the team.

3. Leadership, Development & Collaboration

  • Lead, coach, and develop inventory and warehouse staff; set clear expectations for accuracy, productivity, accountability, and safety.
  • Give regular feedback, address performance issues promptly, and cross-train employees for flexibility and coverage.
  • Build a culture where data and continuous improvement - not “how we’ve always done it” - drive decisions.
  • Partner with Sales, Customer Service, Purchasing, Showrooms, and Finance to resolve inventory, order, and allocation issues, and support cross-functional projects.

4. Process Improvement & Reporting

  • Continuously evaluate processes for efficiency and accuracy; identify root causes of recurring problems and implement sustainable fixes.
  • Develop and document SOPs; decide what should be simplified, automated, or redesigned, and measure the impact of changes.
  • Produce clear, timely reports and summaries for leadership; communicate risks, discrepancies, and trends before they become bigger issues.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Inventory accuracy, reconciliation completion/timeliness, and lost inventory / lost roll perce

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in inventory management and auditing, with supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with inventory management software and technology.
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience in the rug, textile, or home furnishings industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, or related field.
  • Familiarity with RFID technology.
  • Experience managing multiple locations or showrooms.
