Grow your career with a rapidly growing company that invests in its people and their ability to drive real progress.\nRoles & Responsibilities\nUnderwriting\nUnderwrite profitable business in accordance with business plans.\nFully understand the risk & seek further clarity as required.\nAdhere to all Starr underwriting standards as outlined in the Underwriting Manual.\nObtain sign-off for all business that is in excess of agreed authority levels or where any factor falls below rating guidelines.\nAdhere to rating tools and guidelines.\nEnsure that underwriting documentation, both paper and electronic, is accurate, complete, up-to-date and meet Starr’s standards.\nEnsure that the policy wordings & clauses are slip referenced and agreed.\nEnsure that all accounts are contract certain at the time of binding.\nSubmission Management and Binding\nEnsure all bound, quoted, working and declined risks are logged as per guidelines.\nFollow up on outstanding quotes with the relevant broker Develop broker & client relationships to optimize opportunities to lead business, arranging or attending regular meetings, presentations and events.\nEnsure the file is complete and contains all relevant documents. Obtain any outstanding items from the broker or underwriter in readiness for Peer Review.\nEnsure signings are accurate and are consistent with written confirmations.Liaise with brokers to follow up on outstanding renewals.\n\nEnsure schedule data & quotations accurately into the system.\nEnsure the Underwriting Notes are complete.\nConduct Quality Assurance (QA) within 2 working days of binding or inception (whichever is the earliest) to check the accuracy of underwriting data entered on the system, ensuring the risk is contract certain.\nIf Pre-binding Peer Review is not done, a Post-Peer Reviews within 5 working days from QA must be made in order to ensure the underwriting rationale, terms and conditions, pricing against Starr guidelines and the completeness of files.\nReconcile and report all premiums due versus received in order to manage credit control.\nPlan and Develop\nTogether with the Regional Manager contribute to the Starr Spain strategy within Continental Europe, but specifically Iberia.\nDevelop, produce and stablish local wordings with the assistant of UW team in UK and Continental Europe aligned to local market characteristics.\nWith the supervision of the CUO produce a clear, coherent underwriting strategy.\nMonitor premiums versus budget to ensure alignment with the business plan.\nEnsure that portfolio performance satisfies Starr’s Underwriting Business Plan.\nOversee that business retained within the portfolio continues to provides commercial advantage.\nDevelop broker and client relationships to optimise opportunities to lead business, arranging or attending regular meetings, presentations and events.\nExplore client and company knowledge to identify and optimise cross-selling opportunities.\nSeek to grow market share by increasing awareness of technical expertise with outside parties.\nReview Internal Audits and Expert Review Reports to identify and implement improvements.\nSupport the RM and CUO in producing a Casualty business strategy for approval by the Active Underwriter and the Board. \nTogether with the RM and CUO, ensure adequate resource and capability to deliver the business plan and strategic objectives.\nPortfolio Management\nManage aggregations / accumulations of joint venture interests.\nIdentify future areas of business opportunity. \nProvide raw data to the RM and CUO to inform the reinsurance strategy.\nConduct/attend appropriate marketing meetings/presentations with reinsurers.\nContribute to market groups and committees to strengthen the Starr brand and reputation.\nMonitor reinsurance coverage against the business plan, in association with the CUO.\nDelegate tasks for development purposes and provide appropriate support and supervision.\nAssist in the preparation of Realistic Disaster Scenarios (RDS) returns to determine effectiveness of reinsurance coverage against business.\nReview Internal Audits and Expert Review Reports to identify and implement improvements.\nPeople Management\nDetermine appropriate levels of underwriting authority for each Underwriter\nSelect and recruit appropriate people in conjunction with the CUO and Human Resources.\nProduce a comprehensive Onboarding Plan for all newly appointed/promoted/seconded team members.\nIdentify team and individual training needs.
