This position requires a strong understanding of commercial property and casualty insurance, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.\nKey Responsibilities:\nTeam Leadership and Development:\nSupervise and mentor a team of underwriting assistants, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.\nFoster a positive and collaborative work environment, encouraging professional growth and development.\nUnderwriting Support:\nAssist underwriters in the evaluation and analysis of new and renewal business, ensuring compliance with company guidelines and risk appetite.\nCollaborate with underwriters to develop and implement effective risk management strategies.\nOperational Efficiency:\nOversee the daily operations of the underwriting support team, ensuring timely and accurate processing of applications, endorsements, and renewals.\nImplement and monitor workflows and processes to enhance efficiency and productivity.\nIdentify and address operational challenges, proposing and implementing solutions to improve performance.\nQuality Assurance:\nDevelop and implement quality control measures to maintain high standards of underwriting excellence.\nStakeholder Collaboration:\nWork closely with other departments, including claims, risk control, and sales, to ensure seamless service delivery and effective risk management.\nBuild and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and clients, providing exceptional customer service and support.\nReporting and Analysis:\nPrepare and present regular reports on underwriting performance, trends, and key metrics to senior management.\nAnalyze data to identify opportunities for improvement and support strategic decision-making.\nQualifications:\nBachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field.\nMinimum of 5 years of experience in commercial property and casualty insurance underwriting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.\nStrong knowledge of underwriting principles, practices, and guidelines.\nExcellent leadership and team management skills.\nExceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.\nStrong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.\nProficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.\nProfessional designations such as CRIS, CPCU, ARM, or AU are preferred.\nStarr is an equal opportunity employer, which means we'll consider all suitably qualified applicants regardless of gender identity or expression, ethnic origin, nationality, religion or beliefs, age, sexual orientation, disability status or any other protected characteristic.
