The ideal candidate has experience in either Data Engineering, Data Analytics, or Data Governance, and is passionate about helping technical professionals grow, succeed, and deliver high quality outcomes.This role is designed for a servant leader who communicates well, takes initiative, and enjoys finding ways to improve processes and team effectiveness. You will provide leadership, coaching, and operational support to a group of data professionals aligned to your background-such as Data Engineers or Analytics Engineers-within a fast paced, modern data environment.\n**The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services does not sponsor or transfer non-immigrant work visas for this position or accept STEM OPT (form i-983) at any time. **\nExamples of Work\nKey Responsibilities\nLead, mentor, and support a discipline-focused group of data professionals (e.g., Data Engineers or Analytics Engineers).\nFoster a collaborative, inclusive, growth-oriented team culture grounded in servant leadership.\nProvide clear communication around priorities, expectations, and deliverables.\nSupport Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and day-to-day coordination of work.\nRemove blockers and enable teams to maintain momentum and deliver consistently.\nProvide high-level technical guidance across Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, Collibra, and Power BI.\nPartner with technical leads and architects to uphold engineering standards, documentation practices, and data governance requirements.\nEnsure work aligns with DHHS security, compliance, privacy, and data quality expectations.\nHelp balance team capacity, manage workloads, and support effective resource planning.\nCollaborate with Program Managers, Product Owners, and business stakeholders to ensure alignment and smooth execution of initiatives.\nDrive continuous improvement through retrospectives, feedback loops, and best-practice adoption.\nIdentify and implement process improvements that enhance team efficiency and communication.\nSupport onboarding, training, and cross-skilling of team members.\nMonitor team performance metrics and leverage insights to guide improvement efforts.\nIdentify risks early and work with partners to mitigate technical, delivery, or operational issues.\nAssist in coordinating incident response and issue resolution involving data pipelines or analytics systems.\nEncourage innovation by promoting creative problem-solving and exploration of new tools or automation opportunities.\n\nRequirements/Qualifications\nMinimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering or other related field and two years of experience in a related information technology discipline (network infrastructure, coding, systems or database); experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis, one year of which as a project coordinator, leader, or supervisor.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience in Data Engineering, Data Analytics, Data Governance, or a closely related discipline.\nStrong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with a people-first mindset.\nAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment supporting public-sector programs.\nFamiliarity with modern data platforms: Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, Collibra, Power BI.\nHealthcare, public-sector, or government data experience.\nPrior experience supervising or mentoring technical staff.\nUnderstanding of enterprise data governance principles.\nExperience working within Agile delivery methodologies.\nOther: Position is located on-site at the Nebraska State Office Building in Lincoln.\nIf you're currently employed by the State of Nebraska, please don't apply through this external career site.
