About Us

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work

This position is located at Carteret Correctional Center in Carteret County, NC and houses minimum custody male offenders.

Reporting directly to the Correctional Warden, the Correctional Associate Warden of Operations is responsible for assisting the Warden in the total operations of the facility. Additionally, this position has direct management and supervisory responsibility for the operations of several critical functions to include the general day-to-day and the 24-hour operation of the facility. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.

Ensure the safety and security of the housing of male offenders housed at a minimum custody correctional institution and ensuring the safety of the staff and general public.

Working closely with supervisors to provide guidance and direction on prison policies and

Providing direction and structure for the work of the Correctional Captains, Correctional Lieutenants, Correctional Sergeants Correctional Officers, and support staff.

During any extended period of absence of the Warden.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade Range - $50,088.00 - $87,654.00

    The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

    Education Equivalency Verification

    Necessary Special Qualifications:

    Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
