It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work

- Managing the total programs services of a minimum custody facility.

- Supervising the educational, classification, recreational, religion, and medical services as well as the traditional program components for offenders.

- Serving as acting Warden in the absence of the Warden II and participating as part of the management team.

- Providing on-going training to staff and is in charge of planning, direction, and enhancement of programs within the correctional facility.

- Evaluating recommendations from the Correctional Programs Director and/or other senior officials.

- Evaluating feasibility of programs and providing status reports to the Warden II.

Salary Range: $50,088 - $87,654

Necessary Special Qualifications:

MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

To be considered for a Correctional Associate Warden for Programs I position, ALL applicants must:

• Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
• Pass a criminal background check
• Produce a negative drug screening result
• Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
• Possess a valid driver’s license

Required Adverse Weather Reporting:

This position is designated as “Mandatory” and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC13. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase May result.

About the Division of Institutions:

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

About New Hanover Correctional Center:

New Hanover Correctional Center is located in Wilmington, North Carolina and houses up to 402 male offenders in a minimum custody facility.
