Description of Work
Please note that all positions close at 12:00 AM on the posted closing date. You must apply by 11:59 PM prior to the posted closing date.This position reports to the District Engineer for the District 2 office in Nash County and will function as a project inspector conducting independent inspections of driveway permits and encroachments; reviews safety and environmental related items and will perform routine to moderately complex inspections of roadway and utility construction processes and materials to assure compliance with contract agreements, standards and specifications. Safety toe shoes required.
Evaluate and apply engineering judgment to plan interpretation; establish and maintain positive lines of communication between technicians, engineers, contractors and public. Traverse rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Apply safety philosophy and program to all operations. Ability to work in close proximity to high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment. Accurately maintain daily records of work accomplished.
Must be able to legally operate a state vehicle.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC07/ $37,377 - $65,408
Management prefers applicants with the following:
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments
- Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience
- Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, iPad and software
- Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and /or construction surveying
Minimum Education and Experience

Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
