About Us

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the state's public school laws for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public schools at the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education.

Description of Work

This position is responsible for providing supervision to school psychology interns employed by LEAs as part of the NC SPIn Project. The project is grant-funded through the US Department of Education’s Mental Health Service Professionals Demonstration Grant (MHSP) and is intended to support the growth of school psychologists providing mental health supports through partnerships with IHEs. Graduate students completing school psychology training in NASP-approved programs will complete their required internships for one school year by serving in high-need LEAs. The Internship Supervisor position will provide the required supervision to interns to engage in a comprehensive school psychology role (based on NASP’s 2020 Practice Model and the NC Professional School Psychology Standards) and to implement appropriate mental health interventions to students.

Job Responsibilities:

Provide weekly direct and indirect supervision to each intern, which will include virtual meetings and at least one in-person meeting per month. (20% travel will be required).

Document all supervision activities and submit documentation monthly to support project reporting requirements.

Facilitate the scheduling of mental health training activities, including communication with trainers, participants, and DPI staff.

Help to ensure all resources needed for implementation are available to trainers and participants and help support implementation activities.

Communicate with the involved IHEs and LEAs to ensure the interns are meeting their program requirements and to provide required performance evaluations.

Work collaboratively with other DPI staff who support psychological services as well as with state level consultants who support specialized instructional support personnel in similar disciplines (school counseling, school social work, school nursing).

Primary Purpose of the Office of Teaching and Learning:

The primary purpose of the Office of Teaching and Learning is to provide leadership, technical assistance, and monitoring for grades K-12 to ensure that students graduate with the academic knowledge, skills, and understanding necessary for 21st century workplace readiness and post-secondary education. The NC Healthy Schools and Specialized Instructional Support section provides support for the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child framework through standards development and support for implementation for Healthful Living, Physical Education, Reproductive Health, School Counseling, School Social Work, and School Health Partnerships and is responsible for the administration, implementation, monitoring, data collection, and/or reporting of Title V, Youth Risk Behavior Survey, Healthy Active Children, and School Mental Health Policy.

Master's degree in the education field to which assigned from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of specifically related experience in public education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
