You will help modernize cloud delivery through DevOps practices, reusable IaC modules, automation, and strong operational engineering discipline.\nWhy This Role Is Important to Us\nThe team you will be joining is part of Charles River Development (CRD), which became part of State Street in 2018. CRD develops enterprise investment management software solutions for leading global financial institutions across institutional investment, wealth management, and hedge funds. Together, we created the industry's first open front-to-back platform, State Street Alpha, launched in 2019.\nJoin us if delivering next-generation API management platform, infrastructure, cloud networking, platform automation, deployment reliability, and secure-by-default cloud services using Azure, DevOps, and Infrastructure as Code sounds like a challenge you are ready for.\nWhat You Will Be Responsible For\nAs an API Engineer you will be responsible for designing, developing, securing, deploying, and managing enterprise-grade APIs on the Microsoft Azure platform. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in enterprise grade API management solutions, RESTful APIs, cloud-native development, security, automation, and integration patterns. This role works closely with application teams, architects, security teams, and DevOps engineers to deliver scalable and secure API solutions.\nWhat We Value\nAPI Design and Operations\nDesign, deploy, maintain and automate enterprise API management platform and infrastructure.\n\nStrong experience with API gateways and service mesh concepts.\n\nImplement API versioning, lifecycle management, and governance standards.\n\nTroubleshoot and optimize API performance, reliability, and scalability.\n\nFamiliarity with API specifications using OpenAPI/Swagger standards.\n\nExpertise in REST APIs; experience with gRPC and event-driven APIs a plus.\n\nDevelop and maintain API management policies for:\nAuthentication and authorization\n\nRate limiting and throttling\n\nRequest/response transformations\n\nCaching\n\nHeader manipulation\n\nIP filtering\n\nSecurity and Compliance\nImplement OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT validation, and certificate-based authentication.\n\nIntegrate APIs with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).\n\nPerform API security assessments and vulnerability remediation.\n\nEnsure compliance with organizational security standards and governance requirements.\n\nImplement Zero Trust and least privileged access controls.\n\nAutomation and DevOps\nImplement CI/CD pipelines using: Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, ARM Templates, Bicep, Terraform\n\nAutomate API deployment, configuration, testing, and policy management.\n\nManage infrastructure as code (IaC) for API platforms.\n\nMonitoring and Operations\nMonitor API health and performance\n\nDevelop dashboards, alerts, and automated reporting.\n\nSupport production incidents and root cause analysis activities.\n\nIntegration and Services\nIntegrate APIs with:\nAzure Entra ID\n\nAzure Functions\n\nAzure App Service\n\nAzure Service Bus\n\nAzure Event Grid\n\nAzure Storage\n\nAzure Key Vault\n\nCloud / Gateway Services\nAzure API Management is big plus.\n\nAzure Application Gateway\n\nAmbassador Gateway\n\nEducation & Preferred Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.\n\n10+ years of API engineering / cloud development experience\n\nAzure certifications such as Azure Developer Associate, Azure Administrator Associate, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Azure Security Engineer Associate are preferred.\n\nExperience with financial services, regulated environments, change management, security audit processes, or large-scale enterprise cloud platforms is a plus.\n\nAdditional Requirements\nComfortable working in a global, distributed engineering environment.\n\nSelf-motivated, accountable, delivery-focused, and able to drive technical initiatives independently.\n\nPassionate about automation, cloud engineering, operational excellence, secure infrastructure, and continuous improvement.\n\nAbility to document engineering decisions clearly and contribute to team knowledge sharing and collaboration.\n\nAbout Charles River Development\nCharles River Investment management System in a platform that provides many Front-Office functions including Portfolio Management, Order Management and Execution, Compliance, Performance & Attribution, Modelling, Scenario Analysis, and Wealth Management.\nWe are part of the State Street Bank.
