State Street is a major American financial services and bank holding company headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. As one of the world's largest custodian banks and asset managers, it provides comprehensive asset servicing, fund administration, foreign exchange, and investment management through its State Street Global Advisors division.

Who we are:

Charles River Private Markets (CRPM) is part of Charles River Development (CRD), the FinTech division of State Street. CRPM builds and operates a modern private markets investment platform supporting private equity, private credit, real assets, and alternative investment workflows across the full investment lifecycle.

Our vision is to build the leading private markets investment platform, enabling clients to operate with greater transparency, control, and efficiency across both public and private assets. We aim to do this through strong engineering fundamentals, thoughtful system design, and technology-led innovation that scales with our clients’ needs.

Summary:

We are looking for a seasoned and forward-thinking Data Architect, a strategic thinker with deep technical expertise and a passion for designing modern, scalable data platforms. Someone who thrives in fast-paced, collaborative environments and takes pride in delivering high-quality, reliable data solutions.

The ideal candidate will bring experience designing robust, scalable data systems in cloud environments, with a strong focus on data modeling, integration patterns, and analytics enablement. This is an opportunity to shape the data foundation of our platform while enabling advanced analytics, reporting, and AI-driven use cases across global engineering and product teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end data architecture design for an investment management and trading SaaS platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance of data systems.
  • Define and enforce data architecture standards, including data modeling practices, data quality frameworks, and governance principles.
  • Design and evolve logical and physical data models to support transactional systems, reporting, and analytics use cases.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and analytics teams to ensure alignment between data architecture and platform capabilities.
  • Design and implement modern data platforms using cloud-native technologies (AWS data services), supporting both batch and real-time data processing.
  • Define data integration patterns, including ETL/ELT pipelines and event-driven architectures using technologies such as Apache Kafka.
  • Ensure the platform meets enterprise-grade standards for data security, privacy, availability, and compliance (e.g., SOC2, PCI-DSS).
  • Establish data lineage, observability, and monitoring practices to ensure data quality, traceability, and system reliability.
  • Provide architectural direction across development teams and lead data-focused design reviews.
  • Participate in strategic planning, technical roadmap development, and system architecture reviews.
  • Enable consistent data access patterns and support the definition of semantic layers to drive analytics and reporting.
  • Support AI and machine learning initiatives by ensuring high-quality, well-governed data is available for downstream use cases.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI tools to improve data quality, automate data workflows, and enhance developer productivity.
  • Lead modernization of legacy data platforms, transitioning from siloed or tightly coupled systems to scalable, cloud-native data architectures.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical discipline. MS degree preferred.

Key skills and prior experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering or software engineering, with at least 5 years in a data architecture role.
  • Proven track record designing and architecting modern data platforms and data-intensive systems.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling principles across operational and analytical systems.
  • Experience with cloud-native data technologies, particularly within AWS.
  • Deep understanding of data integration patterns, including batch, streaming, and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience working with real-time data streaming technologies such as Apache Kafka.
  • Strong understanding of distributed data processing and large-scale data systems.
  • Solid understanding of data security principles including encryption, access controls, and secure design practices.
  • Experience implementing data governance, data quality, and metadata management practices.
  • Familiarity with building data platforms that support analytics, reporting, and AI/ML use cases.
  • Experience with CI/CD practices for data pipelines and infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of monitoring, observability, and alerting for data systems.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with programming languages such as Python.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with peers in a collaborative team environment.
