The successful candidate will be directly involved in managing Japanese fixed income and global government bond portfolios, while also supporting a broad range of global fixed income strategies offered to Japanese clients.\nWorking closely with portfolio managers, traders, client-facing teams, and global investment professionals, you will help deliver investment outcomes, support business growth initiatives, and improve investment processes through innovation and automation. The role also offers the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of State Street Investment Management's proprietary investment platform and processes, while contributing to their enhancement through the effective use of data, automation, and AI-enabled solutions.\nWhy this role is important to us\nThe team you will be joining is part of State Street Investment Management’s Fixed Income platform, managing a broad range of portfolios with a primary focus on index strategies. Portfolio managers play a critical role in delivering investment outcomes while ensuring portfolios are managed in line with investment mandates, risk limits, and client expectations.\nIn addition to supporting existing institutional mandates, the team is actively focused on expanding ETF and other scalable investment solutions. As a result, this role offers opportunities to contribute beyond day-to-day portfolio management through product development, client engagement, operational enhancements, and strategic business initiatives.\nWhat you will be responsible for\nAs a Fixed Income Portfolio Manager, VP I, you will:\nPortfolio Management\nSupport the management of fixed income portfolios in line with investment guidelines and benchmarks\nMonitor portfolio risk exposures, benchmark deviations, and sector allocations, ensuring adherence to internal risk limits\nAssist in daily cash management, including monitoring inflows/outflows and coordinating with operations teams\nWork with trading teams to execute trades and prepare trade lists where necessary\nInvestment Process & Analysis\nPerform analysis on portfolio positioning and performance attributions\nContribute to portfolio construction and rebalancing decisions using portfolio construction systems\nClient & Product Support\nPrepare and update client materials including pitchbooks, fund questionnaires, and RFP responses for fixed income strategies\nCoordinate with RFP and client reporting teams to ensure accurate and timely delivery of client documentation\nParticipate in internal and external meetings to explain portfolio strategy and investment process\nProduct & Strategic Initiatives\nSupport product enhancement and development initiatives related to fixed income ETFs, mutual funds, and liquidity strategies\nParticipate in cross-functional projects involving investment teams, product management, risk, compliance, operations, and technology groups\nIdentify opportunities to improve investment workflows through automation and data analytics\nSupport business initiatives aimed at growing scalable investment solutions and enhancing client outcomes\nGovernance, Risk & Compliance\nMonitor compliance with portfolio guidelines and respond to risk/compliance queries\nCollaboration & Communication\nWork closely with global PMs, trading desks, and operations teams to ensure efficient portfolio implementation\nFacilitate communication across teams for portfolio changes, unusual activity, and client requirements \nWhat we value\nThese skills will help you succeed in this role:\nStrong analytical mindset and attention to detail\nAbility to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines\nCollaborative and proactive communication style\nEducation & Preferred Qualifications\nMinimum Requirements\nBS/BA required\nMBA, MS, or CFA preferred\nMinimum 7 years of experience in fixed income portfolio management, or related roles\nExperience in managing fixed income index portfolios\nStrong understanding of fixed income products and markets\nExperience working in a global investment management environment and collaborating across investment, trading, operations, risk, technology, and client-facing teams\nExperience in client documentation (RFP, pitchbooks, fund reporting)\nProficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and investment-related analytical tools\nFamiliarity with fixed income portfolio management, risk, and trading platforms.\nFluency in Japanese and business-level English\nBetter to have\nExperience managing or supporting Fixed Income ETF portfolios\nExperience with short-duration, or liquidity management strategies\nExperience supporting investment product development or fund launch initiatives\nExperience leveraging technology, automation, or data-driven solutions to enhance investment processes, reporting, and operational efficiency.\nAbout State Street\nAcross the globe, institutional investors rely on us to help them manage risk, respond to challenges, and drive performance and profitability.
