State Street is an American financial institution founded in Boston in 1792 and one of the oldest banks in the United States, though its modern business bears little resemblance to retail banking. It is one of the three dominant global custodians, holding trillions of dollars of assets in safekeeping for institutional investors and providing the fund accounting, administration and settlement infrastructure that asset managers depend on. Its investment arm State Street Global Advisors created the first American exchange traded fund with the SPDR S&P 500 Trust and remains one of the largest index managers in the world.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Join the leadership team of a new mobile- and AI-first wealth and retirement advisory platform being launched with major financial institutions and strategic investors. The Head of Product & User Experience will lead user discovery, own the end-user experience and product roadmap, and define what gets built and why. This will be a hands-on startup builder role. As the company scales, the successful candidate will build and lead a world-class Product, Design, and UX organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Customer Discovery: Lead user research and translate insights into product priorities.
  • End-to-End User Experience: Own the experience across channels, including customer journeys, interaction models, and design standards.
  • Product Roadmap and Execution: Own prioritization, requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, release objectives, and product readiness.
  • AI-Enabled Product Design and Guardrails: Own the user-facing AI experience, including personalization, workflows, and guardrails.
  • Product Organization: Begin as a hands-on product leader, then build the Product, Design, and UX teams and operating disciplines as the company scales.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • 12-15+ years of product leadership experience in consumer digital products, with responsibility across product management, user experience, and design. Prior CPO, Head of Product, VP Product, or equivalent experience required. Wealth technology or financial services experience preferred.
  • Experience building and leading Product, Design, and UX organizations, including recruiting talent, establishing operating models, and driving cross-functional execution.
  • Demonstrated new product creation and scaling experience, including ownership of product vision, roadmap, user experience, and launch. Startup or new-business creation experience required.
  • Deep expertise in customer discovery, user research, UX design, prototyping, product definition, and requirements management.
  • Technical and AI fluency to partner with engineering, data, and AI teams on personalization, human-AI interaction, and responsible-AI practices.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills, including experience measuring engagement and using data to guide product strategy.

Salary Range:

$170,000 - $267,500 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
