This role positions data as a strategic asset-powering product innovation, client experience, analytics, and AI-driven capabilities-while enabling scalable, secure, and commercially differentiated data services.\nThe successful candidate will operate as a member of the senior leadership team, shaping firm-wide data direction across CRD and influencing the broader State Street ecosystem. This role combines technical depth, strategic vision, and the ability to scale processes, and platforms to enable data-driven product innovation and client outcomes.\nWhy this role is important to us\nThe team you will be joining is part of Charles River Development (CRD), a division of State Street. CRD delivers enterprise investment management solutions across institutional asset managers, wealth managers, and asset owners.\nYou will be part of the team responsible for building and transforming the Alpha Data Platform, an industry-leading investment management data platform and a key strategic initiative for State Street, enabling the industry’s first true front-to-back-office solution. This includes delivering the next-generation, cloud-based investment data management platform leveraging best in class technologies including AI.\nKey Responsibilities\nData Platform and Functional Architecture\nDefine and execute the enterprise end to end data strategy and functional architecture across CRD aligned with State Street Alpha priorities\nLead the evolution toward cloud-native, event-driven, and real-time data architectures, including ingestion, transformation, storage, governance, and distribution\nDrive adoption of modern technologies including Snowflake, Databricks, streaming platforms, and cloud-native infrastructure\nEstablish scalable patterns for data sharing, APIs, data marketplaces, and client-facing access models\nEstablish data foundations for AI/ML and generative AI use cases, including high-quality, governed, and discoverable datasets\nProduct and Client Enablement\nPartner with Product, Engineering, Architecture, and Client-facing teams to translate business requirements into scalable, reliable, and sustainable data solutions.\nDefine and lead the data product strategy, including domain-oriented data products and reusable data assets\nDrive adoption of data-enabled capabilities that enhance client outcomes, operational efficiency, and competitive differentiation\nPartner with product leadership to embed data as a core feature of CRD and Alpha offerings\nPartner with Sales and Professional Service teams to define and deliver data-driven client solutions and commercialization strategies\nRisk and Operational Excellence\nDefine, and set guidelines around enterprise data governance, including lineage, cataloging, metadata, security, and regulatory compliance\nEstablish data quality frameworks, SLAs, and data contracts to ensure data is accurate, timely, and auditable\nEnsure adherence to privacy, security, and regulatory requirements across global markets\nDefine operational excellence including reliability, incident management, performance optimization, and cost efficiency for data platforms.\nLeadership\nPartner and influence global R&D teams across multiple geographies to execute on the data strategy\nMentor senior leaders and develop a strong leadership pipeline\nDrive cross-functional alignment and represent data strategy to executive leadership.\nRequired Qualifications\n20+ years of software and data engineering experience with at least 10 years in leadership roles overseeing large-scale data platforms.\nProven track record defining and delivering enterprise data architecture and cloud-native platform transformations.\nDeep knowledge of distributed data systems, including data warehouses, lakehouses, streaming platforms, and real-time processing frameworks.\nHands-on experience with modern technologies such as Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, Kafka, and orchestration frameworks.\nStrong experience establishing automated engineering standards including DevOps/DataOps practices, CI/CD, and Product Security\nExperience implementing data governance, security, privacy, and regulatory controls in a financial services environment.\nProven leadership ability including hiring, mentoring, and scaling engineering organizations.\nStrong communication skills with ability to influence senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.\nPreferred Experience\nExperience in investment management, capital markets, or financial data domains\nExperience modernizing legacy platforms to cloud-native and data-product architectures.\nExperience enabling AI/ML and advanced analytics platforms\nExperience managing global teams and working in large, matrixed organizations.\nAbout State Street\nAcross the globe, institutional investors rely on us to help them manage risk, respond to challenges, and drive performance and profitability.
