The Senior Agentic AI Engineer will build intelligent agents and reusable platform components supporting investment research, investment performance, data operations, and related enterprise workflows.\nWhat you will be responsible for\nIn this role, you will:\nDesign, build, test, deploy, and support production-grade agentic AI applications and services.\nDevelop intelligent agents using large language models, agent frameworks, orchestration workflows, memory, tool calling, and human-in-the-loop patterns.\nBuild and optimize retrieval-augmented generation pipelines using embeddings, vector databases, semantic and hybrid search, metadata, and enterprise content sources.\nIntegrate agents with enterprise APIs, databases, data platforms, workflow tools, and business applications.\nDevelop reusable services, libraries, templates, and engineering accelerators that improve the speed and consistency of AI solution delivery.\nImplement prompt and agent evaluation, guardrails, monitoring, observability, tracing, reliability controls, and cost-management practices.\nContribute to CI/CD, automated testing, AgentOps, LLMOps, security scanning, and production-readiness activities.\nWork with platform and data engineering teams to integrate agentic AI capabilities with cloud, Lakehouse, knowledge, and data services.\nCollaborate with product owners, business users, architects, governance teams, and security partners to translate requirements into practical solutions.\nParticipate in design and code reviews, document technical decisions, and contribute to platform standards and reference implementations.\nMentor less-experienced engineers and share engineering practices across the team.\nWhat we value\nThese skills will help you succeed in this role:\nStrong hands-on software engineering and problem-solving skills.\nAbility to translate business workflows into clear technical designs and working software.\nCuriosity and willingness to learn emerging AI technologies while applying disciplined engineering practices.\nClear communication and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.\nA strong sense of ownership, attention to quality, and willingness to support solutions through production operations.\nEducation & Preferred Qualifications\nBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related discipline.\n5+ years of experience in software engineering, AI engineering, machine learning engineering, data engineering, or a related role.\nStrong proficiency in Python and modern software development, testing, version-control, and code-review practices.\nHands-on experience building GenAI or agentic AI solutions using LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, Semantic Kernel, Google ADK, or comparable technologies.\nExperience with foundation models such as GPT, Gemini, Claude, Llama, or comparable models.\nExperience implementing RAG, embeddings, vector search, prompt engineering, structured outputs, tool calling, memory, and agent workflows.\nExperience developing APIs, microservices, event-driven services, and cloud-native applications.\nExperience deploying solutions on AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and/or Microsoft Azure.\nFamiliarity with Kubernetes, containers, CI/CD, observability, and infrastructure automation.\nUnderstanding of data engineering, distributed processing, Lakehouse technologies, metadata, data governance, and knowledge management.\nFinancial services, investment management, or enterprise platform experience is preferred but not required.\nAdditional Requirements\nExperience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Gemini Code Assist, Claude Code, Cursor, or comparable tools while maintaining code quality, security, and governance standards.\nAbility to work independently, manage assigned deliverables, and meet deadlines in a cross-functional team environment.\nKnowledge of Responsible AI, security controls, model evaluation, and production support practices.\nRelevant cloud, AI, data, or software engineering certifications are a plus but not required.\nAbout State Street\nAcross the globe, institutional investors rely on us to help them manage risk, respond to challenges, and drive performance and profitability.
