As one of the world's largest custodian banks and asset managers, it provides comprehensive asset servicing, fund administration, foreign exchange, and investment management through its State Street Global Advisors division.

About the role

State Street is seeking a senior executive to lead a critical Transfer Agency function within our Private Markets business. This role sits at the intersection of client leadership, operational excellence, risk management, and business growth, with responsibility for delivering high-quality transfer agency services to some of our most strategic alternative asset manager clients. The Managing Director will serve as a visible leader internally and externally, shaping strategy, strengthening client relationships, leading high-performing teams, and driving innovation across the operating model.

What you will do

As Managing Director, you will:

  • Lead the development and execution of the business strategy for the Transfer Agency function within Private Markets, aligning delivery priorities with client needs and broader business objectives.
  • Oversee service delivery for an assigned client portfolio, ensuring all daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly deliverables are completed accurately, on time, and to a high standard.
  • Build and maintain senior relationships with key client stakeholders, serving as a trusted partner and escalation point while helping ensure a consistently strong client experience.
  • Coordinate production calendars and cross-functional execution with internal teams, including onboarding, investor servicing, reporting, compliance, tax, and other support functions.
  • Drive operational excellence by strengthening processes, controls, and governance to support quality, consistency, scalability, and risk mitigation.
  • Identify high-risk activities and proactively implement actions that reduce service disruption, operational risk, and potential financial loss.
  • Lead, coach, and develop managers and teams, creating an environment of accountability, collaboration, engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Own core people-management responsibilities, including goal setting, performance feedback, talent development, succession planning, and formal performance reviews.
  • Support enterprise initiatives and communicate priorities clearly across teams, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and a strong culture of execution.
  • Contribute to budget planning, workforce planning, and staffing models, including support for new business implementations and growth opportunities.
  • Assess the effectiveness of the operating model and champion transformation opportunities that improve efficiency, scalability, automation, and client outcomes.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders on product development, solutioning, and new business opportunities to help expand capabilities and support client growth.
  • Represent State Street as a senior leader in client discussions, strategic initiatives, governance forums, and cross-functional programs.
  • Lead or sponsor special projects, committees, and task forces that advance business priorities and strengthen execution across the organization.

What we are looking for

The successful candidate will bring a combination of executive leadership capability, client credibility, operational expertise, and a strong understanding of the private markets servicing landscape.

You will be well positioned for success in this role if you offer:

  • Strong strategic, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in a complex operating environment.
  • Executive presence and the ability to build credibility with senior clients, internal partners, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, including strong judgment, prioritization, and execution discipline.
  • A leadership style that inspires teams, develops talent, and fosters collaboration across functions and levels.
  • The ability to navigate pressure effectively, manage multiple priorities, and deliver consistently in a fast-paced client-focused environment.
  • A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement, innovation, and operational transformation.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in accounting, finance, business, economics, mathematics, or a related discipline.

10+ years of transfer agency and/or financial services operations experience, including leadership responsibility for complex client relationships, service delivery, and operational execution.

Demonstrated business management experience supporting complex clients in a highly regulated, service-oriented environment with significant senior-level interaction.

MBA, CPA, or other relevant advanced professional qualification is a plus.

Preferred experience

  • Knowledge of registered fund structures and related entity frameworks, including standalone funds and master-feeder structures.
  • Experience with transfer agency platforms, servicing technology, reporting tools, and workflow solutions.
  • Understanding of upstream and downstream technology solutions that support automation and scalable servicing in private markets environments.
  • Familiarity with a broader range of alternative investment structures is advantageous.

Salary Range:
