Reporting to the VP of Delivery and Growth, this leader is accountable for the technical strategy, solutioning, and delivery excellence of our work in cloud, software engineering, IT operations, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and platform engineering.\nThis is a rare blend of roles: a hands-on technical visionary who can design a credible solution live in front of a client, a strategic seller who helps win new business, and a delivery-minded leader who can turn a vision into an executable operational plan and rescue programs that are off track.\nContributions\nResponsibilities\nSolution on the spot: Architect and articulate cloud, DevSecOps, SRE, and platform engineering solutions in real time with Federal civilian and DoD clients, adapting message and depth to audiences ranging from engineers to senior executives.\n\nStrategic sales leadership: Partner with Sales, Capture, and Growth leadership to shape account strategy, identify opportunities, and position Steampunk's differentiated point of view on DevSecOps with client executives.\n\nBusiness development: Lead technical solutioning for proposals and pursuits, including orals, technical challenges, and solution demonstrations; build and coach pursuit teams and ensure technical volumes are compelling, compliant, and winnable.\n\nVision to execution: Translate strategic vision and win themes into tactical operational plans for delivery programs, including roadmaps, team structure, tooling, metrics, and milestones that Program Managers and delivery teams can execute.\n\nCollaborate with Office of Innovation and Technology Leadership: Collaborate with practice leads of our other capabilities to create integrate, cross functional solutions that solve complex customer problems.\n\nProgram health and course correction: Assess current program challenges across technical, process, and team dimensions; diagnose root causes; and work with Operations Directors, Program Managers, and technical leads to course correct and restore delivery confidence.\n\nPractice leadership: Define, evolve, and demonstrate Steampunk's delivery approach for DevSecOps, software development, IT operations, Cloud and testing; foster innovation and the adoption of emerging practices and technologies across client projects.\n\nClient relationships: Build and maintain trusted relationships with client executives, develop strategic vision for clients and internal teams, and provide technical and business guidance in challenging situations.\n\nEnterprise modernization services: Design and support delivery of enterprise-class services that raise client organizational maturity and build a lasting culture of continuous improvement, including advanced practices like secure software supply chain, continuous ATO, Site Reliability Engineering and compliance automation.\n\nPeople leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop technical leaders and teams of software and IT operations professionals; monitor performance and training needs and create skills expansion and career advancement opportunities.\n\nThought leadership: Serve as an internal and external thought leader through white papers, conference talks, training, and reusable accelerators that strengthen Steampunk's market reputation.\n\nQualifications\nRequired:\nAbility to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance (DoD work may require Secret or higher)\n\nBS degree in an IT field, or BS in a non-IT field and 2 years of related IT experience\n\n15+ years of progressive experience in cloud, software engineering, IT operations, testing and DevSecOps, including leadership of technical teams as a lead or architect\n\n8+ years of experience with one or more clouds (AWS, Azure, or GCP)\n\n8+ years of experience building CI/CD pipelines with tools such as GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar\n\n8+ years of experience with Git SCM providers (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket) and with one or more programming or scripting languages\n\n5+ years of experience with containers and Kubernetes, and with infrastructure as code and integrating deployments with industry-standard DevSecOps tooling and orchestration\n\nDemonstrated experience in SRE and/or platform engineering practices (observability, reliability, automation, internal developer platforms)\n\nDemonstrated experience delivering in Agile environments and leading delivery for Federal civilian and/or DoD programs\n\nProven ability to present and solution live in front of varied client audiences, and to turn a vision into a tactical, operational delivery plan\n\nExperience supporting business development, such as proposal solutioning, orals, or technical challenges\n\nProven ability to analyze troubled or underperforming programs and lead teams through course correction\n\nExcellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills\n\nThis is a hybrid role located in McLean, VA (3 days/week on site)\n\nAbout steampunk\nSteampunk relies on several factors to determine salary, including but not limited to geographic location, contractual requirements, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience. The projected compensation range for this position is $180,000 to $200,000. The estimate displayed represents a typical annual salary range for this position.
