Stepful is a healthcare workforce training company headquartered in New York City and founded in 2020. The company runs short online programs that prepare people for entry level clinical roles such as medical assistant, pharmacy technician, phlebotomist, and surgical technologist, including certification exam preparation and externship placement. It partners with hospital systems and clinics that use the programs to build their own pipeline of certified staff.

About Stepful:

Stepful is a workforce platform redefining how America's largest health systems build, train, and retain their talent. Since our founding in 2021, Stepful’s trained over 32,000 practice-ready healthcare workers.

Layering onto our successful direct-to-consumer training, Stepful partners with leading healthcare institutions to address the growing national shortage of healthcare workers. We’re improving access to quality healthcare for everyone, everywhere, and improving access to healthcare career ladders for those who need them most.

Our students form the talent pipelines for major employers such as NY-Presbyterian, Mt. Sinai, HCA, Providence, CVS, and Walgreens. We have partnerships with half of the top 10 health systems in the US and are in process with many more.

Stepful is backed by Y Combinator, Reach Capital, and AlleyCorp, with a recent $55M Series C led by Oak HC/FT. We were named the #1 EdTech company in the U.S. by TIME for 2025.

Our values:

We credit much of our success to our exceptional team. We’re looking for mission-driven builders who thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments, and embody our four core values:

  • Care first: We do whatever it takes for our students to succeed.

  • Learn quickly: We test, learn with data, and iterate.

  • Build together: We win when we rely on each other.

  • Own it: We show up, take initiative, and show pride.

The opportunity:

Stepful's nursing programs are growing, and clinical education is at the heart of what makes our graduates practice-ready. We're hiring a Clinical Coordinator to build and lead the clinical instructor function - creating the infrastructure, relationships, and team that clinical instruction runs on. Right now, coordinating clinical education is distributed across multiple people; this role consolidates it under one owner who can make it excellent and scalable.

You'll start in the clinical setting, carrying a teaching load of roughly two days per week at clinical sites while you recruit and develop a team of clinical instructors. As that team grows, your teaching responsibility shifts to backup coverage, and your focus moves to leading the instructor team, deepening clinical site relationships, and running the operational systems that keep every student rotation on track. Success in this role looks like a well-staffed, well-supported clinical instructor team, strong site partnerships, and clinical documentation that's audit-ready at all times.

This is a fully remote role with up to 50% travel, primarily to clinical sites in Ohio and Michigan, initially, though as our programs scale this travel will include other states in the midwest region. You'll report to the Dean of Nursing and serve as the connective tissue between clinical instructors, site partners, and academic leadership - the first call when something needs to be solved.

What you'll do:

Teach and model clinical instruction

  • Carry a clinical and skills lab teaching load of approximately two days per week at clinical and/or simulation lab sites

  • Model the standard of instruction you'll hold your team to - show what excellent clinical teaching looks like in practice

  • Transition to a backup clinical instructor role as the team grows, providing coverage when instructors are unavailable

Build and develop the clinical instructor team

  • Recruit, hire, and onboard clinical instructors for Stepful's nursing programs

  • Train new clinical instructors and continue developing them once they're in the field

  • Serve as the first point of contact for clinical faculty questions, issues, and escalations

  • Experiment with AI tools and documentation systems to improve how instructors are onboarded and supported over time

Own clinical site relationships

  • Build and maintain working relationships with clinical site partners, including unit leadership and staff

  • Secure new clinical partners as program growth requires

  • Act as the liaison between clinical instructors and site staff, resolving issues before they reach students

  • Conduct site visits to assess acuity, patient population, and learning opportunities, and use that assessment to match sites to program objectives

  • Stay current with clinical site policies and procedures by attending agency-provided learning experiences and updates

  • Handle onboarding logistics for new clinical instructors at each site - documentation, account setup, computer access, medication administration access, badging, and on-site introductions

Run clinical operations

  • Manage clinical site assignments and rotation scheduling across cohorts, maintaining a master schedule that captures student placements, faculty assignments, and unit locations

  • Confirm coverage for every scheduled clinical day, including securing substitutes when needed and notifying students promptly of any changes

  • Arrange computer access, badging, and orientation for students at clinical agencies as availability permits

  • Maintain current agency availability records and adjust schedules as availability changes

  • Keep the Program Director and Dean of Nursing apprised of changes in clinical procedures, protocols, and site updates

Maintain documentation and compliance

  • Collect and maintain clinical paperwork, student and faculty compliance records, clinical evaluations, and Board of Nursing documentation

  • Track clinical instructor credentialing, health requirements, and site-specific clearances

  • Manage electronic clinical requirement tracking (health records, CPR certifications, clearances) and communicate proactively when student or faculty records are out of date

  • Collaborate with the Program Director on clinical agency evaluations for quality improvement and accreditation purposes

  • Ensure clinical records are audit-ready for Board of Nursing and accreditation review at all times

What you'll bring:

  • Active, unrestricted compact (multistate) RN license, or eligibility to obtain one

  • Master’s degree in nursing (required for accreditation purposes)

  • 2+ years teaching clinicals in a nursing education program

  • Experience training, onboarding, or mentoring clinical instructors or preceptors

  • Current BLS/CPR certification (healthcare provider level)

  • Ability to meet clinical site health and immunization requirements, including required vaccinations and background screening

  • Willingness to travel up to 50%

  • Strong organizational skills and comfort managing schedules, documentation, and logistics across multiple sites

  • A relationship-oriented approach - this role succeeds or fails on the strength of your working relationships with site staff, instructors, and students

Interview Process:

  • Introductory call with Talent Acquisition team member

  • Interview with Hiring Manager

  • Take-Home Assignment

  • Virtual Assignment Review

  • Virtual Team Interviews
