Within these strategies, the Group has a broad investment mandate and is always seeking new ways to leverage resources to tackle some of the key problems in the world.\nThis role is based in Johannesburg and supports the financial oversight and reporting of the South African investments, as well as international investments including real estate, private equity and venture capital.\nPurpose of the Role:\nTo own the preparation, analysis and presentation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts for the Steyn Group / Steyn Family Office entities and allocated international investments, turning financial data into clear insight on performance against budget and forecast. The role provides decision-useful reporting to the Finance Manager as well as the Global Team, and ensures that financial information is complete, accurate and compliant with accounting standards, Group policies and regulatory requirements.\nAdditional Context for the Role:\nUnlike the transactional finance roles (AP, AR and cash book processing), this role focuses on reporting, analysis, review and control. The Management Accountant reviews and relies on the work of the AP and cash book function and supports the Finance Manager and the wider finance function with budgeting, audits, systems improvements and ad hoc analysis. The finance environment is scaling and changing, with an emphasis on efficiency and increased reliance on software (NetSuite) and automation. Limited travel might be required.\nKey Responsibilities and Duties:\nMonthly Management Accounts & Month-End Close\nPrepare monthly management accounts (income statement, balance sheet and cash flow) for the dedicated entities and allocated international investments, in line with the Group month-end timetable.\nOwn the month-end close process: post and review journals, accruals, prepayments, provisions, depreciation and intercompany entries.\nPrepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all balances are supported, explained and cleared on a timely basis.\nReview the AP, AR and cash book/bank reconciliation work\nprepared by the transactional team and resolve escalated\nvariances.\nPrepare reporting packs and supporting schedules for the Finance\nManager and the Global Team, including intercompany and\nconsolidation inputs.\nManage financial records and ensure adherence to accounting\nstandards (IFRS / IFRS for SMEs as applicable) and Group\naccounting policies.\nBudgeting, Forecasting & Performance Analysis\nPerform the monthly review of actual vs budget together with the\nFinance Manager, preparing variance analysis and clear\ncommentary to present to the Group.\nLead preparation of the annual budget and periodic reforecasts for\nallocated entities, working with the Finance Manager and operating\nteams.\nPrepare and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts and monitor\nliquidity and funding requirements across the portfolio.\nAnalyse performance at P&L level and develop KPI reporting for the\ninvestments and/or entities.\nTrack private equity and venture capital investments, including\ncapital calls, distributions, valuations and investment performance\nreporting.\nProvide financial guidance and ad hoc analysis (e.g. business\ncases, cost analysis, scenario modelling) to support decision making.\nAudit, Compliance & Controls\nPrepare audit files and supporting schedules, act as a key contact\nfor external auditors, and assist with the preparation of annual\nfinancial statements.\nSupport statutory and tax compliance (e.g. VAT, provisional and\nincome tax) in liaison with external tax advisers and the Finance\nManager.\nMaintain and strengthen internal financial controls, approval\nworkflows and segregation of duties; identify and escalate control\ngaps.\nEnsure adherence to regulatory requirements and Group policies\nacross allocated entities.\nSystems, Process Improvement & Automation\nUse NetSuite as the primary accounting system: maintain chart of\naccounts, entity/subsidiary structures and reporting templates for\nallocated entities.\nIdentify and implement process improvements and automation to\nshorten the close and improve reporting quality.\nBuild and maintain robust Excel models and reporting tools, with\nclear documentation of processes and procedures.\nStakeholder Management & Collaboration\nReport directly to the Finance Manager and work closely with the\nGlobal Team and/or stakeholders.\nCollaborate with internal staff, operating teams, asset managers and\nexternal partners (auditors, tax advisers, banks) to foster synergy\nand alignment in achieving organisational objectives.\nProvide guidance to, and review the work of, the AP and Cash Book\nfunction; share knowledge and support the development of junior\nfinance staff.\nAssist the Finance Manager and wider finance function with ad hoc\nqueries, reporting and projects.\nApplicants should have a minimum of five years’ proven experience , BCom Accounting (or equivalent) is essential.
