Working closely with operational colleagues, Procurement and our external partners, you’ll provide the insight, challenge and expertise needed to ensure expenditure is accurate, contractually compliant and delivers genuine value for money.\nWhat you’ll be doing\nYou’ll take commercial and cost management responsibility across a range of contracts and workstreams, with a particular focus on high-volume responsive repairs, empty homes, gas and electrical works.\nDay to day, you’ll:\nReview and challenge contractor costs at job and line-item level.\n\nScrutinise Schedule of Rates pricing, variations, applications and supporting evidence.\n\nMonitor expenditure and identify cost trends, risks, inefficiencies and opportunities for savings.\n\nLead and support cost benchmarking, value engineering and commercial reviews.\n\nProvide commercial advice and constructive challenge to operational and procurement colleagues.\n\nAssess contract variations, claims and other commercial matters.\n\nSupport contract negotiations and new commercial arrangements.\n\nIdentify and manage contractual and financial risks.\n\nBuild effective relationships with contractors while maintaining strong commercial challenge.\n\nUse data and commercial insight to influence improvements to services and contractual arrangements.\n\nLook for smarter, more innovative ways of working and strengthening commercial control.\n\nUltimately, your commercial expertise will help us deliver efficient, high-quality services and positive outcomes for our customers.\nWhat we’re looking for\nWe’re looking for someone with strong Quantity Surveying and commercial experience who can confidently analyse costs, challenge suppliers and turn detailed information into clear commercial decisions.\nYou’ll ideally bring:\nSignificant Quantity Surveying experience within a large or complex organisation, with social housing experience particularly welcomed.\n\nStrong knowledge of the NHF Schedule of Rates (SOR).\n\nExperience of reviewing contractor costs across high-volume repairs and maintenance workstreams.\n\nA track record of delivering measurable savings, efficiencies and performance improvements.\n\nStrong financial management, budgeting and costing experience.\n\nExcellent analytical skills and the confidence to use data to inform decisions.\n\nStrong Excel capability, including PivotTables, lookup formulas and graphs.\n\nExcellent influencing, negotiation and communication skills.\n\nThe ability to challenge constructively, resolve conflict and build effective long-term partnerships.\n\nAn HND, relevant professional qualification or equivalent experience within construction, housing, property or Quantity Surveying.\n\nA full UK driving licence and the ability to drive when required for the role.\n\nKnowledge of building and contract law, building regulations and health and safety legislation would also be advantageous.\nAppointment to this role will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (if applicable), satisfactory references and possession of a valid Right to Work document.\nThis role may require specific qualifications, skills, knowledge, and behaviours to meet the Competence and Conduct Standard for Social Housing.
