This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on operational responsibility, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing and employee benefit administration across diverse regulatory environments. The role manages a team of payroll and benefits professionals while maintaining direct involvement in critical payroll activities, vendor management, audits, issue resolution, process improvement initiatives, and regional compliance efforts. The successful candidate partners closely with HR, Finance, Tax, and external service providers to deliver a high-quality employee experience and support the organization's continued growth throughout APAC.\nResponsibilities\nPrimary duties will include:\nPayroll Operations\nLead end-to-end payroll processing across India, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, China, and Japan utilizing a combination of internal resources and third-party payroll providers\nEnsure accurate and timely payroll processing, statutory filings, tax reporting, and year-end payroll activities in each country\nReview and approve payroll calculations, variance reports, off-cycle payments, incentive payments, equity-related payroll transactions, and termination payments\nServe as the escalation point for complex payroll, tax, and compliance matters\nMonitor payroll controls and perform periodic audits to ensure data integrity and compliance\nPartner with Finance to support payroll accounting, reconciliations, accruals, and reporting requirements\nMaintain payroll calendars and governance processes to ensure service-level commitments are met\nSupport internal and external audits and respond to payroll-related compliance inquiries\nBenefits Administration\nOversee administration of employee benefits programs across the APAC region, including medical, life insurance, retirement, wellness, and other local benefit offerings\nManage enrollments, terminations, employee status changes, and annual renewal processes\nPartner with brokers, carriers, and vendors to ensure effective service delivery and cost management\nSupport benefits benchmarking, market reviews, renewal negotiations, and implementation of new programs\nResolve complex employee benefit inquiries and escalations\nEnsure benefit programs remain compliant with local employment and regulatory requirements\nLeadership & Team Management\nLead, coach, and develop a team of payroll and benefits professionals across the APAC region\nEstablish performance expectations, workload priorities, and development plans for team members\nFoster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, customer service, and operational excellence\nProvide hands-on support during payroll cycles, peak periods, system implementations, and critical business initiatives\nBuild cross-training plans to minimize key-person dependency and strengthen organizational resiliency\nCompliance & Risk Management\nMonitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting payroll, taxation, social insurance, pensions, and employee benefits\nEnsure compliance with local labor laws and statutory obligations across all supported countries\nDevelop and maintain payroll and benefits policies, procedures, and documentation\nPartner with Legal, Finance, Compliance, and external advisors on regulatory changes and risk mitigation strategies\nDrive compliance reviews and process audits to identify and address control gaps\nSystems & Process Improvement\nIdentify and implement opportunities to improve payroll accuracy, efficiency, automation, and employee experience\nPartner with HRIS and HR Operations teams to maintain payroll integrations and employee data accuracy\nLead testing and implementation activities for system upgrades, process changes, and new country requirements\nDevelop standardized reporting and metrics to monitor payroll performance, service delivery, and compliance\nStakeholder Management\nServe as a trusted advisor to HR leaders, Finance teams, Business Partners, and employees throughout APAC\nCollaborate with global payroll, HR operations, compensation, mobility, tax, and benefits teams to ensure consistent practices\nManage relationships with payroll providers, brokers, consultants, and other third-party partners\nQualifications\nTo land this role you will need:\n8+ years of progressive payroll and benefits experience with significant responsibility across multiple APAC countries\n3+ years of people management experience\nDemonstrated experience supporting payroll operations in India and additional APAC jurisdictions such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, China, and Japan\nStrong understanding of payroll taxation, statutory requirements, social insurance programs, and employment regulations throughout APAC\nExperience managing third-party payroll providers and benefits vendors\nAdvanced Excel and payroll reporting capabilities\nExcellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills\nStrong written and verbal English communication skills\nWhat
