The ideal candidate uses AI coding tools as a meaningful part of their engineering workflow. They understand how to apply them thoughtfully across the software development lifecycle: exploring unfamiliar code, accelerating implementation, generating and refining tests, debugging complex issues, evaluating architectural options, improving documentation, and reducing repetitive engineering work. Just as importantly, they know how to review AI-generated output with strong engineering judgment, validating correctness, security, maintainability, and fit within the broader system before anything ships.\nThis is a role for someone who combines sound engineering judgment with an AI-native approach to building software. You should be comfortable using tools such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar AI-assisted development platforms as a normal part of your daily workflow, with clear examples of how these tools have improved your speed, quality, decision-making, or technical output.\nAbout the Role\nAs a Senior Software Engineer in Storable’s Marine Division, you will contribute to the development and modernization of web applications that support marina operators and their customers. You will work across the stack using technologies such as React, Node.js, PHP, MySQL, and AI-assisted engineering workflows. Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and deployment environments is helpful, but this role is primarily focused on building and improving application software.\nYou will be expected to bring both traditional software engineering discipline and modern AI-enabled execution. That means writing reliable, maintainable code; understanding systems deeply; making pragmatic technical decisions; communicating clearly with engineers and non-engineers; and using AI tools thoughtfully to move faster, improve quality, and reduce repetitive engineering work.\nWhat You’ll Do\nDevelop new features and products for Storable’s marine software platform, working across frontend, backend, and integrations.\nUse AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, debugging, testing, refactoring, documentation, technical discovery, and design work.\nApply strong engineering fundamentals when reviewing AI-generated code, ensuring correctness, security, maintainability, and alignment with system architecture.\nCollaborate effectively with infrastructure and platform teams when application work touches CI/CD, AWS services, deployment workflows, monitoring, or reliability concerns.\nIdentify and reduce technical debt through thoughtful refactoring, modernization, and architectural improvements.\nTroubleshoot internal bugs and customer-reported issues quickly and effectively, balancing speed with long-term code quality.\nCollaborate with product managers, designers, support teams, and other engineers to translate business and customer needs into reliable technical solutions, ensuring technical decisions are clearly explained and understood by the people affected by them.\nMentor other engineers on both traditional engineering best practices and effective use of AI-assisted development workflows.\nParticipate actively in collaborative development practices, including stand-ups, retrospectives, backlog refinement, technical design discussions, and the creation of technical design documents for meaningful product or architecture changes.\nWrite and maintain unit, integration, and functional tests to ensure confidence in the systems we build.\nContinuously evaluate new tools, technologies, and AI-enabled workflows that can improve engineering productivity and product quality.\nWhat We’re Looking For\n7+ years of practical software engineering experience, preferably including significant experience building and maintaining production web applications.\nStrong full-stack development experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Node.js, PHP, MySQL, or comparable technologies.\nA track record of shipping software in real-world production environments where reliability, maintainability, and customer impact matter.\nStrong software engineering fundamentals, with demonstrated experience using AI-assisted development tools as part of a modern engineering workflow.\nHands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools as a normal part of day-to-day engineering work.\nStrong ability to evaluate, correct, and improve AI-generated code rather than accepting outputs blindly.\nA practical understanding of software architecture, debugging, testing, performance, scalability, and technical tradeoffs.\nSome exposure to cloud infrastructure, CI/CD systems, AWS services, serverless functions, deployment workflows, or related infrastructure tooling is helpful, but not required.\nExcellent problem-solving skills and the ability to break down ambiguous technical challenges into clear, executable steps.\nExcellent communication skills are essential. You should be able to explain technical decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders through design documents, diagrams, tradeoff analysis, async updates, and collaborative discussion.\nA collaborative mindset and demonstrated ability to mentor, guide, and raise the technical bar for other engineers through clear feedback, thoughtful documentation, and effective technical discussion.\nMust be able to reliably work on-site at our Seattle, WA office three days per week.\nHow We Expect Engineers to Use AI\nWe are especially interested in engineers who treat AI as a serious engineering tool and can point to practical ways it has improved how they build software. You should be comfortable using AI to:\nExplore implementation options, compare technical tradeoffs, and help structure technical design documents that clarify the recommended path forward.\nGenerate first drafts of code, tests, documentation, technical design documents, diagrams, scripts, and migration plans.\nDebug unfamiliar systems and reason through complex code paths.\nRefactor legacy code safely and incrementally.\nImprove developer velocity without compromising quality.\nValidate assumptions and pressure-test technical decisions.\nBuild internal tools, automation, and workflows that reduce repetitive engineering work.\nReview AI-generated work critically for correctness, maintainability, security, and product fit.\nWe value engineers who know when AI can accelerate the work, and when careful human judgment is required.\nTechnical Experience\nWe do not expect every candidate to have deep experience in every technology listed below.
