We're looking for a journalist-producer who can spot compelling stories, report them out thoroughly, and transform them into engaging video journalism.\nAbout this role:\nStraight Arrow is seeking a Video Producer who is a journalist first.\nYou’ll pitch stories, conduct reporting, book guests, write scripts, produce segments and help shape coverage across our flagship shows. You’ll be just as comfortable digging through research and interviewing sources as you are collaborating on a daily rundown. \nYou’ll play a key role in our morning programming, so we’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys mornings, thrives in a fast news environment, and wants to be an active contributor to the energy and conversations that help start our audience’s day. \nThe ideal candidate is exceptionally curious, highly organized, quick to learn, and motivated by finding stories others miss. The core of your storytelling revolves around identifying the people at the center of the conflict and producing reporting that adds genuine value to the public conversation. \nExperience developing documentary-style stories for YouTube is a plus, but this is fundamentally a journalism and story production role.\nResponsibilities:\nStory Development & Reporting\nPitch original story ideas and fresh angles\nIdentify emerging trends, overlooked issues and underreported stories\nConduct interviews, research and source development\nSurface stories rooted in real-world consequences and competing perspectives \nWriting & Production\nWrite scripts, interview outlines and show segments\nBook guests and prepare interviews\nProduce video content from concept through publication\nCollaborate with hosts, editors and leadership to shape editorial direction\nEnsure reporting meets the highest standards of accuracy, fairness and clarity\nShow and Audience Development\nContribute ideas for franchises like Unbiased Updates, Off Script and Media Miss\nUnderstand what resonates on YouTube and digital platforms\nExperiment with new formats, storytelling techniques and audience engagement strategies\nOccasionally travel for field reporting and production\nCollaborate across Straight Arrow's editorial, marketing, social and product teams to promote reporting and programs\nQualifications:\nRequired\n5+ years of experience in journalism, news production, reporting or documentary media\nProven ability to originate and report stories independently\nExceptional writing, interviewing and storytelling skills\nStrong news judgment and editorial instincts\nExperience producing fast-moving news content on tight timelines\nAbility to juggle multiple projects without sacrificing quality\nDeep commitment to factual accuracy, fairness and journalistic integrity\nFamiliarity with YouTube and digital-first video publishing\nEnthusiasm for early mornings and being part of a daily morning news program\nPreferred\nExperience producing news, public affairs or current events programming\nInvestigative or enterprise reporting experience\nDocumentary development or short-form documentary experience\nStartup media experience\nVideo editing skills\nStrong source networks across politics, policy, business, technology, culture, science or local communities\nCompensation & Benefits:\nThe salary range for this position is $70,000-$90,000.\nStraight Arrow offers comprehensive health and wellness coverage that ensures our employees have the care and coverage they need to stay healthy, build current and future financial security and maintain work-life balance.
