In addition, this position performs manual labor as required. Areas in which work is performed include turf grass maintenance, landscaping, trail maintenance, litter control, special event logistics, snow clearing, etc.\nThis posting is for 1 hourly position up to 5 months\nKey Responsibilities:\nOperates self-propelled equipment including a variety of trucks, trailers, tractor/mowers, skid steers, front end loaders, utility vehicles, gas powered and electric hand tools and a variety of small equipment such string trimmer, push mowers, backpack blowers, saws, backpack sprayers, snow blowers, and drills in a safe and efficient manner\nMonitors, maintains and services equipment to ensure it is in proper working order and meets operating and safety standards\nUses and shares knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulations and Code, follows safety guidelines, identifies potential hazardous situations and adapts appropriately\nAssists Team Lead position by training other staff members in the proper operation and maintenance of equipment\nDisplays accountability when providing direction, training, and overseeing the work of small crews in the completion of assigned tasks, and assists with other related duties\nProficiency in maintaining records, and databases\nQualifications and Skills:\nHigh School Diploma plus 2 years of related experience \nExperience operating trucks, trailers, and/or small equipment and engines \nSupervisory experience is an asset \nCurrent WHMIS, First Aid and CPR certifications are an asset \nExperience working with irrigation systems, sports fields, and outdoor skating surface construction/maintenance is an asset\nStrong communication, leadership and interpersonal skills; the ability to interact in a positive manner with others\nAbility to follow written and verbal directions, and to maintain concentration and alertness for extended periods of time\nAbility to adapt to new and changing situations, combined with initiative and responsibility\nKnowledge of OHS, SDS and WHMIS 2015 Regulations, First Aid and CPR\nKnowledge of County recreation areas and of safe operating procedures\nProficiency in the use of a variety of related equipment and tools\nConditions of Employment:\nValid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence with Q-Endorsement and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits \nCurrent First Aid and CPR certification required prior to start date \nAbility to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time while potentially working in inclement weather\nWho We Are:\nStrathcona County is a specialized municipality located in the heart of Alberta.
