In this role, you would contribute to the maintenance and improvement of outdoor recreational areas by safely operating a variety of self-propelled small equipment, performing manual labour, and training other staff in the safe operation of equipment. This position will support turf development and maintenance, feature sports fields, horticulture and urban forestry, playground construction and maintenance within Strathcona County, as well as at the Broadmoor Public Golf Course.\nThis posting is for one full-time hourly position and two part-time hourly positions for up to 18 weeks\nKey Responsibilities:\nOperate self-propelled equipment including a variety of trucks, trailers, ride-on mowers, tractors, skid steers, gas-powered and electric hand tools, line painters, and a variety of small equipment such as string trimmers, push mowers, generators, drills, and backpack sprayers in a safe and efficient manner \nMonitor, maintain, and service equipment to ensure it is in proper working order and meets operating and safety standards \nUse and share knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Regulations and Code, follow safety guidelines, identify potential hazardous situations, and adapt appropriately \nAssist Operator II and Team Lead positions by training other staff members in the proper operation and maintenance of equipment \nDisplay accountability when providing direction, training, and overseeing the work of small crews in the completion of assigned tasks, and assist with other related duties \nQualifications and Skills:\nAbility to follow written and verbal directions and interact in a positive manner with internal and external customers \nGood written and verbal communication skills \nKnowledge of occupational health and safety and WHMIS regulations \nAbility to maintain mental alertness while performing duties often with frequent interruptions and under time constraints; unscheduled overtime may be required \nAbility to organize a crew to perform basic job functions efficiently, promote team building \nGeneral mechanical knowledge \nMinimum high school diploma or equivalent with two years related experience in outdoor operations \nTurf management, construction, or sports field maintenance, landscaping and irrigation experience\nPrevious experience operating, servicing, and maintaining trucks, trailers, ride-on mowers, tractors, skid steers and/or small equipment \nConditions of Employment:\nValid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits \nCurrent First Aid and CPR certification required prior to start date \nAbility to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time. \nAbility and willingness to perform duties in inclement and adverse weather conditions \nAbility to work evenings and weekends as required\nWho We Are:\nStrathcona County is a specialized municipality located in the heart of Alberta.
