We are looking for talented and experienced engineers who want to take ownership of hard problems and play a key role in bringing multiple platforms into production.\nDuties and Responsibilities\nThe Mechanical Designer will support the development of aerospace and defense products through detailed mechanical design, CAD modeling, engineering documentation, and manufacturing support. This role works closely with mechanical engineers, manufacturing teams, suppliers, and production personnel to develop accurate, producible designs.\nThe ideal candidate is a detail-oriented designer who enjoys turning concepts into manufacturable hardware, creating high-quality engineering drawings, supporting prototype builds, and helping improve products through the design and production lifecycle.\nQualifications\nRequirements\nEducation + Experience\nAssociate degree, technical degree, or equivalent experience in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field.\n3+ years of experience in mechanical design, drafting, or product development.\nExperience supporting aerospace, defense, automotive, robotics, industrial equipment, or other complex mechanical systems is preferred\n\nDon't meet every qualification? We value diverse backgrounds, unique perspectives, and a willingness to learn.\nRequired Qualifications\nProficiency with Solidworks 3D CAD Software.\nExperience creating:3D part and assembly models\nDetailed manufacturing drawings\nAssembly documentation\nEngineering change documentation\n\nUnderstanding of GD&T principles and tolerance application.\nAbility to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.\nExperience designing mechanical components and assemblies including:Machined components\nWeldments and structural components\nSheet metal parts\nBrackets, fixtures, and structural components\nHardware integration and packaging\n\nUnderstanding of manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication, finishing, and assembly.\nAbility to collaborate with engineers and manufacturing personnel to resolve design issues.\nExperience supporting prototype builds, production assembly, and design improvements.\n\nPreferred Skills\nExperience working in an Aerospace, Defense, or highly regulated manufacturing environment.\nExperience with configuration management and engineering change processes.\nFamiliarity with ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.\nExperience designing weight-optimized structures, enclosures, mechanisms, or electromechanical assemblies.\nExperience supporting supplier or manufacturing reviews.\nFamiliarity with specifying coatings or corrosion protection.\nHands-on experience with fabrication, assembly, testing, or inspection processes.\nSoft Skills\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to design accuracy.\nAbility to organize and manage multiple priorities.\nStrong communication skills and ability to work within a cross-functional team.\nPractical problem-solving approach with a focus on manufacturable solutions.\nAbility to take ownership of assigned designs and follow projects through completion.\nPositive, collaborative attitude with a willingness to learn and grow.\nA Note About This Role\nThese qualifications represent the types of experience that tend to be successful at Stratom.
