It would be advantageous to have completed a 2 t to 3 previous co-op terms. \nThis position will require mostly in-office time at our Burnaby site.\nThis position provides an opportunity to learn about the design and development and implementation of medical devices within a quality management system. Provides opportunity to design in CAD and exposure to fabrication techniques (3D printing, machining, etc). Provides opportunity to learn ASTM standards for drawings as well as other critical engineering skill sets. \nSpecific Responsibilities\nReleasing Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s) of Device Master Record (DMR) documents into our Agile Product Lifecycle Management software.\nEvaluation of mechanical design options and bench testing to determine acceptability criteria and optimal solution given a constrained timeline.\nProgress updates to be provided in meetings as required.\nCreation of test protocols, conducting tests and generating test reports.\nVendor identification and liaison in support of prototyping and new product development\nDesign and build test fixtures and jigs in support of verification and product testing, as needed.\nAdditional responsibilities may include assisting in assembly of prototype devices, development of opto-mechanical jigs & fixture, supporting the project manager as required.\nWhile working with a team of engineers and under the supervision of a senior engineer, the co-op will be expected to engage on some of the following types of activities:\nQuality Management System DHF/DMR development on new and existing products, including documentation, meetings, and liaising across cross-functional teams.\nParticipate in front-end conceptual design and engineering activities on new products.\nSourcing components and identifying appropriate vendors.\nProduct and component testing both in the form of early laboratory prototypes and final, formal product verification testing.\nDesign of test setups and testing conditions to investigate options for improving device performance.\nMay work with vendor engineers to design systems, and during early design stages to perform evaluations and experiments.\nParticipate in design reviews, risk management and associated risk control assessment.\nUnderstand and follow proper procedures and best practices; work with senior engineers to improve them.\nActively contribute to and respect team decisions; strive for and abide by consensus; operate within Company core values.\nContribute to project planning and commit to deliverable goals. Proactively report progress to project management and R&D management when required.\nTake direction as needed from senior engineers and R&D managers; complete most tasks with minimal guidance; use resources responsibly and effectively.\nProactively seek out senior technical leaders and managers as necessary.\nPhysical Requirements\nSedentary work: Exerting up to 10 kilograms of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, etc. generally involves sitting most of the time.\nMust be able to communicate with groups of people.\nMust be able to review printed materials.\nAbility to use common office equipment.\n\nMental Requirements\nSelf-managed, self-motivated, with excellent hands-on problem-solving skills.\nMust be able to generate and explain design objectives.\nMust be able to complete detailed documentation accurately.
