As a Senior Manager, Government Affairs & Market Access, you will lead Stryker’s GAMA (Government Affairs & Market Access) strategy and execution in South Africa, partnering closely with the South Africa leadership team and reporting to the Senior Director, GAMA Europe & EEMEA. You will play a key role in identifying opportunities, navigating the evolving healthcare environment, and enabling growth across the business.
The role will lead across three key GAMA domains:
1) Government Affairs & Advocacy: Build strategic relationships with policymakers, senior government officials, and trade associations to advance Stryker’s priorities.
2) Reimbursement & Market Access: Secure NAPPI codes and reimbursement approvals from funders and key hospital groups, including for new product launches.
3) Commercialization: Lead market access projects for key brands, leveraging policy, reimbursement, and value-based strategies to accelerate growth.
What will you do:
Lead the South Africa government affairs and market access strategy, aligned with country and business priorities and focused on enabling commercialization and patient access.
Build strategic relationships with government officials, policymakers, trade associations, payers, reimbursement organizations, hospital groups, KOLs, medical specialty societies, and other relevant stakeholders.
Drive reimbursement strategies and submissions for Stryker medical device technologies, including new product introductions, with the goal of securing approvals from funders and key hospital groups.
Develop evidence-based value propositions using clinical and health economic data to demonstrate the value of Stryker technologies and support reimbursement and commercial objectives.
Identify and lead market access and government affairs projects that address policy developments, reimbursement opportunities, and barriers to product adoption.
Advise business and functional leaders on policy, reimbursement, health economics, and market access considerations, integrating these into business and commercialization strategies.
Monitor and influence relevant healthcare policy and reimbursement developments in South Africa, proactively identifying risks and opportunities for the business.
Strengthen GAMA capabilities across South Africa by partnering cross-functionally and cross-divisionally and sharing market access insights, best practices, and strategic guidance.
What will you need:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in science, medical, technical, political science, business, or a related field.
6-8+ years’ relevant experience in government affairs, market access, reimbursement, or healthcare policy.
Strong experience in reimbursement strategy and market access within the medical device or pharmaceutical industry.
Proven track record developing reimbursement strategies and securing approvals from payers, funders, or hospital groups.
Strong stakeholder management, communication, negotiation, analytical, and project management skills.
Fluent English language skills.
Preferred
Master’s degree in law, political science, health economics, health sciences, business, or a related field.
Established relationships with South African payers, reimbursement bodies, healthcare authorities, hospital groups, or KOLs.
Experience engaging with trade associations and senior government or policy stakeholders.
Location: Johannesburg, South Africa
Work model: 3 days per week on-site in the Johannesburg office
Travel: Approximately 15-20%, with occasional travel within EMEA or globally
