prepare international students for\nlevel 1 undergraduate study in UCD and to support students in achieving their progression\nrequirements.\nABOUT THE ROLE\nTeaching and Learning\nPlan and execute appropriate, effective and inclusive learning programmes through\nschemes of work\nPlan teaching sessions which accommodate individualised learning using a variety of\nresources, including digital learning\nEnsure a broad range of learning materials are available on the VLE for students to access\nand engage with, including self-directed tasks and activities that facilitate feedback and\ninteraction\nApply the principles of learning and teaching to provide learning activities to meet curriculum\nrequirements and the needs of all students, considering the QQI Level 5 requirements for\nthe programme.\nSelect the relevant learning approaches and skill development to ensure students’ progress.\nContribute to the provision of a stimulating learning environment whilst adhering to the\nCentres’ Health and Safety procedures\nAssessment\nApply the theories and principles of assessment including initial, diagnostic, formative and summative assessment\nUse a variety of methods to check learning in lessons (formative assessment)\nEnsure that interactive assessment activities are available to students through the VLE\nProvide regular and timely feedback to students to enable them to improve and achieve their qualifications\nWrite summative assessments according to the QQI Programme Assessment Briefs, addressing to their correspondent learning outcomes (including repeat assessments).\nPrepare students for summative assessment through revision sessions and practice assessments\nEngage in moderation of assessment materials and student work, including double marking, thorough and timely preparation of all relevant documentation for the external examiners and QQI external authenticators, and participation in module assessment boards.\nEnsure that all summative assessments follow their correspondent assessment briefs, as per the QQI validated programme.\n Progress SupportMaintain up-to-date and accurate records of student attendance and progress\nRespond promptly and appropriately to lapses in student attendance, punctuality, behaviour\nand application to their studies by individual conversations with students, referrals to\npersonal tutors or referrals to professional services\nSupport students with individual target setting and revise these throughout the year during\nprogress checks\nSupport student with action planning to improve academic performance and achieve\naspirational targets\nBe available to offer support to students as required (e.g. workshops, booster and revision\nclasses and one-to-one feedback sessions)\nSupport students to progress to the University by being proactive in liaising with University\nSchools and link tutors\nContribute to student progress reports in a clear and constructive manner\nStrive for and attain high levels of student achievement\nLearning and Welfare Support\nRefer students for learning support where appropriate\nTake responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of students in your care\nRefer to support services where appropriate.\nContribute to effective communication with stakeholders (parents, sponsors, University etc)\nPersonal Learning and Development\nBe aware of and comply with all Centre quality assurance processes such as observation of\nteaching and learning, audits of teaching and learning material (including VLE content, exam\npapers, assessment briefs) programme and module evaluation and subject team performance\nreviews\nDemonstrate and update subject specialist knowledge to ensure the currency of specialist\nteaching\nConvey enthusiasm for personal specialist area to staff and students\nEngage in professional development to improve teaching and learning practice, and update\nsubject specialist knowledge\nUndertake reflection and self-evaluation of personal teaching practice and continuing\nprofessional development\nComply with expectations of professional conduct\nUse student feedback to improve personal performance\nTeam working\nWork as part of the academic team to produce and develop an exciting curriculum for\nstudents\nBe prepared to operate on a flexible basis to meet the needs of the academic team and the\nCentre as a whole\nBe available to cover lessons for absent colleagues as required\nPrepare for and participate in appropriate Centre events (e.g. induction activities, University\nschool events, award ceremonies etc.)\nPromote a cohesive work ethic within the academic team and the Centre as a whole\nShare best practice and contribute to the academic team’s bank of effective\nresources/ideas/activities for Teaching and Learning\nAttend team and centre meetings in accordance with the Centre’s meeting schedule\nImplement internal and QQI quality assurance procedures at module and teaching session\nlevel and contribute to the annual monitoring and review of courses.\nABOUT YOU\nMinimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Physics or related area (essential)\nA relevant teaching qualification or post-graduate degree (desirable)\nExperience of teaching in the Higher or Further Education sectors or of Leaving Certificate (Hons)/A-level
