This leadership role offers the opportunity to oversee some of the nation's most challenging underground transportation and infrastructure projects, including tunnels, shafts, underground stations, transit facilities, deep excavations, and complex underground structures.\nThe successful candidate will serve as both a technical leader and project manager, guiding multidisciplinary teams through planning, design, and construction while supporting business growth and client development throughout the Northeast region.\nThis position is ideal for an experienced engineer who combines exceptional technical expertise with strong leadership, project delivery, and client management capabilities.\nKey Responsibilities\nTechnical Leadership\nLead structural design and engineering efforts for tunnels, underground structures, transit facilities, shafts, caverns, cut-and-cover structures, and rehabilitation projects.\n\nServe as Engineer of Record (EOR) for major projects as required.\n\nProvide technical direction for tunnel support systems, structural lining systems, underground station structures, retention systems, and excavation support.\n\nGuide the application of advanced structural and geotechnical analysis methodologies.\n\nReview and approve engineering calculations, technical reports, drawings, and specifications.\n\nEnsure compliance with industry standards, applicable building codes, owner requirements, and safety regulations.\n\nProject Management\nManage large-scale transportation and infrastructure projects from planning through construction.\n\nDevelop project scopes, staffing plans, schedules, budgets, and execution strategies.\n\nMonitor project performance to ensure delivery on schedule and within budget.\n\nCoordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams across structural, geotechnical, civil, rail, systems, and construction management disciplines.\n\nLead internal and external project meetings, technical workshops, and design reviews.\n\nIdentify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.\n\nTeam Leadership\nMentor, supervise, and develop structural and tunneling engineers at all experience levels.\n\nBuild and manage high-performing engineering teams.\n\nConduct technical reviews and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) activities.\n\nPromote knowledge sharing and professional development throughout the organization.\n\nClient Development & Business Growth\nServe as a trusted advisor to public and private sector clients.\n\nSupport business development initiatives, proposals, interviews, and strategic pursuits.\n\nFoster and maintain relationships with agencies such as MTA, NYCT, Amtrak, Port Authority, NJ Transit, and other transportation owners.\n\nIdentify opportunities for project expansion and new client relationships.\n\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related discipline.\n\nMaster's degree in Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field preferred.\n\nMinimum 15 years of progressively responsible experience in structural engineering, tunneling, underground structures, or major transportation infrastructure projects.\n\nProfessional Engineer (PE) license required.\n\nExtensive experience managing multidisciplinary teams and complex engineering projects.\n\nDemonstrated experience with underground transit, rail, transportation, water, wastewater, or similar heavy civil infrastructure projects.\n\nStrong understanding of tunnel design and construction methods, including:\nCut-and-cover tunnels\n\nBored tunnels\n\nSequential excavation methods (SEM/NATM)\n\nMicrotunneling\n\nRehabilitation and waterproofing systems\n\nDeep excavation support systems\n\nExperience with structural analysis and design software such as SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD, LARSA, RISA, Midas, or similar platforms.\n\nStrong understanding of AASHTO, ACI, AISC, AREMA, ASCE, FHWA, and applicable transit agency standards.\n\nExcellent written, verbal, presentation, and client-facing communication skills.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience delivering major design-build projects.\n\nPrevious leadership role managing engineering groups of 10+ professionals.\n\nExperience supporting construction phases, field investigations, and contractor coordination.\n\nBackground working on New York metropolitan transportation projects.\n\nAdvanced experience with finite element modeling and numerical analysis platforms.\n\nExisting relationships with major public transportation agencies and infrastructure owners.\n\nCompensation Range:\n$204,645.30 -
