In this role, you’ll help design safer, smarter, and more connected transportation systems while working alongside experienced engineers from multiple disciplines. Your work will focus on traffic control device design and with opportunities to support traffic safety and operational analysis.\nThis is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented, self-motivated engineer who enjoys hands-on design, solving technical challenges, and seeing their work make a real impact. You’ll contribute to a variety of projects across STV’s South Region, including highways and interchanges, intersection improvements, and multimodal bicycle and pedestrian facilities-with room to expand your skills and grow your career.\nWhat You’ll Do\nDevelop traffic signal designs, including phasing, timing, detection, communications, and cabinet/controller plans.\nPrepare ITS designs for CCTV, dynamic message signs, fiber and communication layouts, detection systems, and related field devices.\nDesign signing and pavement markings based on MUTCD guidelines utilizing GuideSign software.\nDevelop Maintenance of Traffic designs based on SHA and MUTCD standards for various geometric improvement projects.\nUtilize VISUAL or Agi32 photometric design software to prepare lighting design plans for various roadway or pedestrian lighting projects.\nPartner with multidisciplinary design teams to deliver coordinated, accurate work on schedule and within budget.\nConduct field reviews, document existing conditions, and verify design assumptions.\nAssist project managers and senior engineers with specifications, quantities, cost estimates, technical reports, and final bid packages.\nApply SHA, MUTCD, AASHTO, and local municipal standards across project deliverables.\nPerform task-level QA/QC and support quality reviews led by senior staff.\nWhat You’ll Bring\nBachelor’s degree in civil engineering.\nMinimum of 2 years of traffic engineering or transportation design experience.\nExperience developing traffic control device designs.\nEIT certification is preferred, with the ability to obtain PE licensure in Maryland.\nExperience working with public DOT’s is highly desired.\nProficiency in MicroStation, AutoCAD, and applicable DOT CADD standards; OpenRoads Designer experience is preferred.\nStrong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and contribute to a collaborative team.\nWhy STV\nAt STV, you’ll work on meaningful transportation projects that improve how communities move while learning from experienced professionals across a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
