You work independently on assigned problems, write production-grade Go, and partner with Product and senior engineers to turn requirements into reliable, well-tested systems.\nReports To: Engineering Manager\nRequirements\nKey Responsibilities:\nThis role is organized around five core areas. Each describes what we expect you to own and deliver.\nDesign & Development\nDesign and build complex, high-volume backend systems and APIs in Golang.\n\nDecompose large, ambiguous problems into deliverable milestones for yourself and others.\n\nDrive integrations across services, third parties, and data stores at a system level.\n\nCode Quality & Testing\nDefine and enforce testing, code-quality, and review standards for the team.\n\nSet the example for maintainable, well-documented, production-grade code.\n\nImprove tooling and processes that raise overall code quality.\n\nArchitecture & Technical Direction\nOwn architecture for major systems; make and document high-impact design decisions and trade-offs.\n\nDefine backend engineering standards and patterns others build on.\n\nEvaluate new technologies and lead technical strategy for your area.\n\nCollaboration & Influence\nPartner with Product and leadership to shape roadmaps and technical priorities.\n\nMentor and level up SDE-1/SDE-2 engineers; grow the team’s capability.\n\nDrive alignment across teams on technical direction.\n\nOperations, Reliability & Security\nOwn the reliability, scalability, and performance of systems handling high-volume transactions.\n\nLead incident response and drive post-incident improvements; champion observability.\n\nBuild security and data integrity into system design from the start; set practices for responsible data handling, including HIPAA/PHI.\n\nCore Technical Skills:\nThe capabilities we expect you to bring to the role, grouped by area.\nLanguages & Foundations\nDeep proficiency in Golang and its ecosystem.\n\nExpert command of concurrency, goroutines, and channels.\n\nWorking knowledge of Python is a big plus.\n\nAI-Assisted Development\nSets the bar for AI-assisted development on the pod - defines how and when AI tooling is used and what validation looks like before code ships.\n\nMentors others to treat AI output as a starting point, not an answer, and owns the quality and maintainability of AI-assisted work across the pod.\n\nAPIs & Distributed Systems\nProven experience with RESTful APIs and gRPC.\n\nStrong experience designing microservices and distributed systems at scale.\n\nData Stores\nCore: relational databases - PostgreSQL and/or MySQL, including data modeling for scale.\n\nNice to have: experience with DynamoDB (NoSQL) and/or Redis (caching) - a plus, not a requirement.\n\nCloud & Infrastructure\nDeep experience operating production systems in the cloud (we run on AWS), with strong command of Docker, CI/CD, and Git.\n\nOur backend runs on AWS Elastic Beanstalk and Lambda; specific experience with these isn’t required - a solid foundation in Docker and container orchestration transfers directly.\n\nAs our platform scales, we’re investing in container orchestration (ECS/EKS, Kubernetes);
