We are a team of world-class scientists, engineers, and technical experts building technology for the United States.\nSummary\nYou will orchestrate complex technical programs from conception through delivery, coordinating work across autonomous scientists, engineers, and technical specialists. This role requires managing parallel workstreams where hardware development, R&D, manufacturing, and scientific validation all happen simultaneously with interdependent deliverables.\nResponsibilities\nLead technical programs involving hardware components and scientific validation across multiple parallel workstreams\n\nManage program schedules, budgets, and resource allocation across multiple evolving projects\n\nTrack critical dependencies between R&D, hardware development, scientific validation, and manufacturing readiness\n\nWork closely with scientists across disciplines to translate research into technical requirements\n\nPartner with hardware engineering on component selection, design validation, and manufacturing readiness\n\nWork with security experts to ensure teams and projects meets privacy and security requirements\n\nManage vendor relationships with component suppliers, manufacturers, and testing facilities\n\nExecute risk assessment and mitigation strategies for technical and supply chain risks\n\nFacilitate technical reviews and integration decisions across autonomous project contributors\n\nPresent program status, risks, and recommendations to executive leadership\n\nCreate and maintain technical program documentation while respecting contributor autonomy\n\nRequired Qualifications\n6+ years technical program management experience, 3+ years at hardware or hardtech companies\n\nManaged programs with 20+ person project contributors including engineers, scientists, and technical specialists\n\nExperience coordinating parallel workstreams in flat, project or research based organizations\n\nDirect experience with hardware product development lifecycle and scientific research translation\n\nSupply chain management experience including component sourcing and manufacturing coordination\n\nExperience coordinating autonomous technical contributors across multiple scientific and engineering domains\n\nManaged program budgets and resource allocation across parallel project workstreams\n\nCommunication and organizational skills sufficient to collaborate with Substrate staff to understand requirements and deliver solutions that match advanced process needs\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nB.S. or higher degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline in the physical or engineering sciences\n\nSalary Range\n$150,000-$275,000 USD\nSubstrate is an equal opportunity employer.
