This role involves the proactive and reactive maintenance of a wide range of electrical, and control systems to ensure optimal production performance in a demanding, safety-critical environment.\nKey Accountabilities \n You will work as part of a dedicated maintenance team, playing a key role in maximising equipment uptime, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.\nPlanned & Reactive Maintenance\nCarry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) on manufacturing plant, machinery, and associated systems.\nRespond quickly and effectively to breakdowns, troubleshooting faults to minimise downtime.\nMaintain accurate maintenance records and complete work orders in the CMMS system.\nTechnical Duties\nDiagnose and repair electrical faults, including motors, gearboxes, pumps, PLC-controlled equipment, and process machinery.\nAssist with the factory testing and commissioning of equipment, machinery, and other facilities required for the new submarine power cable plant.\nAssist with the energization of the manufacturing facility. \nInstallation and repair of Electrical facilities within the site.\nSupport calibration and testing of production equipment in line with manufacturing specifications.\nContinuous Improvement\nAssist in the development of maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability and performance.\nContribute to engineering improvement projects, upgrades, and equipment installations.\nProvide technical input during root cause analysis investigations.\nSafety & Compliance\nAdhere to all relevant HSE policies, risk assessments, and permit-to-work procedures.\nMaintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with 5S standards.\nEnsure all work complies with regulatory requirements and company standards.\nPreferred Knowledge / Skills / Experience\nEssential:\nRecognised apprenticeship or equivalent qualification (ONC/HNC, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds) in Electrical or Multi-Skilled Engineering.\nProven experience in industrial electrical work.\nAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals.\nStrong electrical skills (fault-finding, wiring, control systems).\nWorking knowledge of PLC systems (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar) for diagnostics.\n18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification.\nMust have right to work in UK\nDesirable:\nExperience in cable manufacturing, wire production, or similar process industries.\nSome mechanical aptitude would be a benefit.\nMEWP / forklift licence or other relevant industry tickets.\nWhy Join Us?\nCompetitive salary.\nAttractive employer contribution pension scheme.\nThis is a unique opportunity to join a growing company at an exciting stage of its journey, help shape our future, and play an important role in establishing a successful manufacturing operation.\n-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------\nAbout our project in Port of Nigg, Highland\nSumitomo Electric is one of the leading global manufacturers of state-of-the-art high-end electricity transmission \ncables, up to and including 525kV HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) cable.\nThe new factory at Nigg, with investment value announced by the Scottish Government of £350M, will make a \nsignificant contribution towards realisation of the UK Net Zero Target by contributing to critical electricity transmission\ninfrastructure to connect and deliver renewable energy, including offshore wind, to UK consumers and beyond. \nIn addition, the factory will create more than 150 highly skilled jobs in the Scottish Highlands, with maximum \nutilisation of the local supply chain for production of cables and construction of transmission cable systems.\nIn a significant boost for the UK green energy supply chain, Sumitomo Electric has commenced construction \nof its state-of-the-art subsea transmission cable factory in the Scottish Highlands. \nThe factory will supply critical elements for the reinforcement of the UK electricity transmission grid and for \nconnecting renewable energy production facilities to the grid.\nAbout Sumitomo Electric Group\nSumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. is a recognized global technology leader with over 290,000 employees working \nat around 400 group companies in 40 countries.
