As a Senior SRE, you'll apply SRE principles (measurement, observability, automation and accountability) to FinOps and cost optimization, treating cost the way SREs treat reliability. That means building, running and improving the tooling behind our cost decisions, from cost data pipelines and dashboards to unit-economics and allocation reporting. Beyond the tooling, you'll design new FinOps capabilities from concept through rollout and bring your technical expertise to cross-team cost-saving initiatives.\nWhat you will do:\nFinOps tooling & cost observability\nBuild, maintain and improve FinOps tooling, including cost data pipelines, telemetry jobs, dashboards and reports across all Sumo Logic deployments.\nImplement and evolve unit-economics and cost-allocation reporting so cloud and AI spend maps accurately to the teams and products that drive it.\nSupport and improve our cost regression program and tooling, detecting and investigating cost increases and helping teams resolve them.\nSupport cross-team cost-saving initiatives, partnering with engineering teams to identify, implement and measure savings, and contribute to the cost optimization roadmap.\nSupport commitment tracking (CSP, RI, EDP) with accurate coverage and utilization data.\nApplying SRE principles to FinOps\nRun FinOps tooling and cost data pipelines like production services, with monitoring, alerting, data-quality checks and runbooks.\nBuild actionable cost alerting and budget thresholds, modeled on SRE error budgets and burn-rate alerting.\nAutomate manual cost reporting and analysis work.\nDesign and implement new FinOps capabilities, from technical design through rollout.\nWhat you already have\nBachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Sciences, Engineering, Finance or related field (Ph.D. is a plus)\nComfortable with cost and unit-economics concepts (allocation, amortization, cost per unit), with the ability to turn complex data into actionable insights\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights\nTrack record of taking ownership and influencing results, working across internal and external organizations, including engineering, finance and marketing \nExcellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders \n Technical skills: \n3+ years of professional experience in data or software engineering roles\n1+ years of experience with cloud financial management or FinOps framework\nDemonstrative ability to build and operate data pipelines with complex sources\nOperational expertise in high scale, reliable 24/7, multi-tenant global SaaS\nStrong coding and debugging skills (Scala experience highly beneficial)\nAbout Us\nSumo Logic, Inc. helps make the digital world secure, fast, and reliable by unifying critical security and operational data through its Intelligent Operations Platform.
