You'll work using data, analytical thinking and fraud prevention expertise to help reduce losses while protecting approval rates and the experience of our merchants and their customers.\nThis is an opportunity to work on complex, high-impact fraud challenges in a global environment. We expect you to operate with autonomy, build a deep understanding of fraud performance and turn your analysis into practical strategies and recommendations that improve how we prevent fraud over time.\nWhat you'll do\nContribute to fraud prevention strategy for SumUp's acquiring business across Brazil, Mexico and the United States.\nAnalyze large and complex datasets to identify fraud trends, emerging patterns, performance changes, anomalies and opportunities for improvement.\nDesign, configure, test and optimize decision-engine rules, thresholds and authentication strategies in line with business needs and fraud risk.\nMonitor fraud, chargeback, approval-rate and false-positive performance, using relevant metrics to assess the effectiveness of prevention strategies.\nInvestigate the root causes of changes in performance and recommend clear, data-driven actions.\nOwn analytical workstreams from problem definition through analysis, recommendation, implementation and impact measurement.\nRespond effectively to changing fraud patterns and support the development of appropriate mitigation strategies when new risks emerge.\nTranslate regulatory and card-scheme requirements into effective and actionable fraud controls.\nCommunicate insights, risks, trade-offs and recommendations clearly to stakeholders across the business.\nBuild strong working relationships with Fraud Operations, Disputes, Product, Engineering, Legal, Compliance, Finance and regional teams.\nContribute to a consistent, well-documented and continuously improving approach to fraud prevention.\nWhat we expect from you\nYou will take ownership of fraud prevention topics within your scope and move work forward with a high level of autonomy.\nYou will combine technical analysis with sound judgement, considering fraud losses, false positives, approval rates, merchant conversion and user experience when making recommendations.\nYou will be curious about how fraud evolves and continuously look for ways to strengthen prevention strategies.\nYou will bring structure to ambiguous problems, prioritize effectively and make decisions based on evidence.\nYou will communicate complex topics in a clear and concise way, adapting your message to technical, operational and senior audiences.\nYou will collaborate constructively across functions and influence stakeholders to support effective fraud prevention decisions.\nYou will measure the impact of your work, share learnings and use results to improve future strategies.\nYou will contribute to a culture of accountability, knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the Fraud Prevention team.\nYou'll be great for this role if…\nYou have proven experience in fraud prevention, fraud strategy, risk management or a related analytical role within payments, fintech or another data-driven environment.\nYou have advanced SQL and Python skills, including experience working with data pipelines and analyzing large datasets.\nYou have hands-on experience configuring fraud decision engines, rule-based systems, transaction monitoring or authentication strategies.\nYou are a power user of Tableau or a similar business intelligence and data visualization platform.\nYou have practical knowledge of applied statistics and modelling, including A/B testing, classification or regression.\nYou have strong knowledge of Brazilian Card-Present and Card-Not-Present fraud patterns and the ability to apply that knowledge to fraud strategy.\nYou understand how to balance merchant conversion, approval rates, fraud losses and false positives when making decisions.\nYou can translate complex analysis into clear, actionable recommendations and communicate confidently with technical, operational and senior stakeholders.\nYou are proactive, autonomous and comfortable solving ambiguous problems in a fast-changing environment.\nYou have strong prioritization and execution skills, with a growth mindset and the ability to adapt quickly as fraud patterns and business needs change.\nYou communicate at an advanced to fluent level in English, both verbally and in writing.\nYou have a degree in Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics or a related quantitative field.\nIt would be a plus if you have\nParticipation in industry working groups, webinars or communities focused on Brazilian fraud trends.\nKnowledge of acquirer settlement flows and interchange economics.\nExperience working with card-scheme requirements, regulatory changes or fraud controls in the Brazilian payments market.\nWhy you should join SumUp\nOpportunity to work with a truly global, multicultural team from our dynamic São Paulo hub in the heart of the city.
