Sun King is looking for an experienced Finance Manager to oversee financial reporting, tax compliance, audit coordination, and accounting operations for its Ethiopia business. This is a hands-on role for a finance professional with strong knowledge of Ethiopian federal and regional taxation, statutory audits, and IFRS-based accounting. The position manages tax compliance and dispute matters with the Ministry of Revenue and regional State Revenue Bureaus, coordinates the annual audit cycle, and maintains accurate, complete, and audit-ready financial records.

The Finance Manager will work closely with the Global MIS Team and the Regional Finance Controller for East Africa, providing financial insights on tax, compliance, controls, and business performance as Sun King continues to grow its Ethiopia operations.

What you will be expected to do:

1. Tax Compliance - Federal & Regional

  • Manage end-to-end compliance with Ethiopian federal tax requirements administered by the Ministry of Revenue, including corporate profit tax, VAT, excise tax where applicable, withholding tax, customs/import duty and VAT exposure, and employment income tax compliance.
  • Manage compliance with regional state and city administration tax requirements, including the Addis Ababa City Administration Revenue Bureau and other relevant State Revenue Bureaus and Authorities.
  • Address matters where federal and regional tax jurisdictions overlap, ensuring appropriate interpretation and application of tax requirements.
  • Prepare, review, and submit statutory tax returns within required timelines.
  • Maintain tax payment calendars and reconcile tax-related general ledger accounts.
  • Serve as the main contact for tax assessments, queries, audits, and dispute matters with the Ministry of Revenue and Regional Revenue Bureaus.
  • Coordinate information provided to tax authorities and participate in settlement discussions where required.
  • Reconcile tax ledgers with tax authority records and investigate differences or variances.
  • Monitor changes to Ethiopian federal and regional tax proclamations, directives, and rulings, translating relevant updates into practical guidance, process changes, and risk considerations for the business through the Public Policy and Government Relations team.
  • Provide input into transfer pricing documentation and intercompany transaction compliance for cross-border dealings with Sun King subsidiaries.
  • Monitor regulatory filings linked to finance operations, including relevant National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) foreign exchange requirements.

2. Audit & Internal Controls

  • Serve as the main contact for external statutory auditors and coordinate the annual audit cycle from planning through completion.
  • Coordinate audit schedules, fieldwork, information requests, and resolution of audit queries.
  • Maintain year-round audit readiness for internal, interim, and final audits, including accurate reconciliations, documentation, and evidence files in line with group month-end reporting (MEC) and Ethiopian statutory requirements.
  • Participate in internal audit reviews and control testing, tracking action points through to completion.
  • Establish, maintain, and monitor internal controls covering financial reporting, cash handling, reconciliations, procurement, and revenue processes.
  • Coordinate with licensed local audit firms and maintain compliance with Accounting and Auditing Board of Ethiopia (AABE) requirements.

3. Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for the Ethiopia entity, ensuring accurate and timely reporting against group deadlines.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements in line with IFRS and Ethiopian statutory reporting requirements.
  • Reconcile statutory books to group reporting and investigate differences where they arise.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and the fixed asset register.
  • Maintain an accurate and audit-ready general ledger.
  • Maintain the local Chart of Accounts in line with group standards and ensure accurate entity and cost-center reporting.

  • Follow up with relevant Partnership Account Managers on overdue accounts.
  • Reconcile EasyBuy receipts against wallet balances.
  • Ensure the “Balance to Collect” on KaziPlan is reconciled monthly.

Bank & General Ledger Reconciliations

  • Ensure all bank accounts are reconciled on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Verify that funds recorded in the internal CRM through Looker reconcile with SAP S/4HANA and bank account balances.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciliation differences within established timelines.

Month-End Close

  • Ensure all month-end close activities are completed within established MEC timelines, including: Depreciation, Purchase GIT, Salary journals, Bonus and incentive provisions, Prepaid expense tracking, FX runs, and Fixed asset accounting
  • Provide accurate and well-assisted commentary for monthly P&L and balance sheet reviews ahead of MIS publication.
  • Monitor costs associated with imported shipments (COGS), ensuring appropriate allocation and timely follow-up with Operations for MIRO/MIGO bookings and closure.

4. Business Partnering

  • Provide clear financial insights and commentary on business performance, tax exposure, and compliance risks during country and regional business reviews.
  • Represent Finance in cross-functional forums and provide guidance to Sales (EasyBuy Direct), Marketing, Operations, Legal, HR, Procurement, and EB Operations on tax, audit, and accounting matters.
  • Work with teams across the business to identify financial risks, improve processes, and strengthen compliance.
