We're looking for an experienced Assistant Underwriter - Distribution to join our Business Distribution team and play a key role in supporting profitable growth, strengthening intermediary relationships, and delivering outstanding customer outcomes.\nThis is an exciting opportunity open across Auckland for a commercially minded underwriting professional who enjoys building strong broker relationships, making informed underwriting decisions, and contributing to the growth of a leading insurance portfolio.\nWhat you'll be doing\nAs an Assistant Underwriter, you'll support the management and growth of our SME commercial insurance portfolio, working closely with intermediaries, customers and internal stakeholders to deliver effective underwriting solutions and exceptional service.\nYou'll:\nReview and assess SME commercial insurance risks and provide underwriting support on renewal and new business opportunities. \nMake informed underwriting decisions that support profitable portfolio growth.\nBuild and maintain strong relationships with brokers and intermediary partners to support retention and growth outcomes. \nDeliver positive customer outcomes by providing timely, accurate and customer-focused service.\nManage partner referrals and contribute to identifying trends and opportunities for continuous improvement.\nCollaborate with teams across Distribution, Operations, Claims and Customer Experience to achieve business objectives.\nSupport digitisation, automation and process improvement initiatives that enhance the customer and partner experience. \nWhat you'll bring\nWe're looking for a relationship-focused underwriting professional who combines strong technical capability with a passion for delivering excellent customer experiences.\nMinimum 3 years' experience in commercial underwriting.\nStrong understanding of the New Zealand commercial insurance market.\nDemonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with brokers and business partners. \nExcellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills. \nSound commercial acumen and knowledge of underwriting and sales principles.\nA customer-first mindset with a focus on achieving positive outcomes. \nExperience with Vero systems will be highly regarded. \nRelevant insurance industry qualifications and/or tertiary qualifications will be advantageous. \nWhy join us?\nAt Suncorp New Zealand, we're proud to be part of one of Australasia's most trusted insurance groups.
